Can anyone advise on the process of what happens when you buy a car privately, what authorities & paperwork need to be involved/complete?

I sold a car last month and this is the proceedure. Visit the Muhtar who fills in a form and both parties sign. Take copy passport from both buyer and seller with Muhtar letter and log book to vehicle registration office n Leftkosia and the buyer pays 250 YTL to have registration changed into his name

Thanks for that most helpful, next question where is the Registration Office in Leftkosia, is it easy to find. Also is there a time limit on this action?

No idea about a time limit but if I was selling and the new owner was caught on a speed camera then you get the fine.

The office is behind the driver licence office. Go straight on at the large roundabut in Leftcosia, the one with the fountains that look like rocks on a stick. Past the hospital and carry on straight through traffic lights. Pass the Dano bakery flour mill on the right, through the traffic lights and continue straight on. You will see a sign on your left REGAL, its yellow and black, at a turning on the left. Turn here and go along this road past the drivers licence office. Turn right after this building and the registration office is the single story building at the other side of a rough car park. The front door is around the other side of this low building.

Inside the change of registration desks are to the extreme right on the waiting room.

Don't forget that Government offices are only open all day on Mondays (closing for lunch 1.30 to 3.45) and then only open until 1.30pm the rest of the week. The car tax office works on a ticket system so make sure you press the right button!
