The Cyprus government’s revised Title Deed legislation provides for fines and the possible imprisonment of those found guilty of violating its provisions.

If only North Cyprus could bring in similar legislation eh ....

if only the south would actually enforce such a law, particularly retrospectively. If you read the details you'll see that there is nothing stopping the builder receiving a small fine and the buyer still having an illegal property. The important section to take note of is

"Under the legislation, irregularities carried out by current residents after the purchase – like closing balconies or building garages – can also be legalised, for a fee, as long as they do not affect third parties or encroach on state property"

In other words, no talk of fining the builders of current builds, or awarding compensation to purchasers for "irregularities", just a note that they will have to pay and the builder gets away for their law breaking.

They all play on wording and not surprisingly so because most of the legislature is comprised of Lawyers. Makes good PR initially until you analyse the detail.

So I suppose it continues to be "a lack of will to enforce the Law" ...
