Does anyone here live in or around the Lefkosa area?

It seems most people live near the coast, Lapta etc

I am looking to move out to Cyprus in the near future, and would like to hear from anyone that doesnt live in the popular coastal towns.

I know Lefkosa can be quite hot and dry during the summer, I have a cousin that lives there but thats about it.

But i suppose the fact its a major city means its busy all year round, right? and not just during the summer months.

hi reproman

i live in the lefkosa district in the mountians behind girne.

if you are looking to live in lefkosa you will find it extremely hot in the summer. air con all day which costs.

most of the people in lefkosa are tc's or turkish. i have met one other expat here in gonyeli and a few english/cypriots.

you will need to be prepaired as you would possibly be the only expat in the street or village, so a little turkish would help.

you will also get the ignorant expats who think that you are stupid or poor because you don't have a sea view. we have a view of lefkosa, at night its amazing!

the restaurants are better because most are set up for the locals not the tourists.

prices in the shops are also cheeper again set up for the local people, it just takes a while to get to find things.

living with the tc's can bring problems. 95% in our village are ok with us, but you still get a racist element, which you would have to learn how to deal with.

it would be better if you email me with your questions and i will see if i can help.

But far more bearable in the evenings than the coast.

all those people missing the point. no humidity, fresh air, wildlife running around, fantastic views, theres lots to be said for living up the mountain with the cypriots.

we have good days and bad days but all in all we wouldn't change a thing.

pike - far less mossies too then i presume?, which can only be a good thing.

fire-starter - thanks for the info, i know from my post i sound 'ex-pat' but i am infact a TC, so living amongst them wont be a problem. Its just most of my family either live near the coast or far out in remote villages. Unfortunately im not in a position to retire so once i move out there i would have to work. And being the main city, i thought my job chances would be better in Lefkosa.

i suppose a nice sea view in Girne and a long drive every day to work in Lefkosa is out

of the question?...
