I dont want to travel the island on a shopping expedition or visit all shops in Girne, any recommendations? Back in UK you can get them in supermarkets for £20 to £40. Probably not available at that price here.

What do you call reasonably priced?

I was out yesterday trying to find a 'reasonably' priced microwave, I don't need one that grills and roasts - just a basic one would do me.

Toros only had one model and it was 243 Euros (yes Euro's NOT tl)!

Beko had 2 'reasonably' priced models: one 17ltr at 150tl and one 23ltr at 180tl (they also had more expensive models)

Bosch had only one model and I was quoted 240tl

Halos Trading: In Lefkosa I was quoted 150tl for a Solstar and 200tl for a Sharp but at the end of the bypass I was quoted 175tl for the Solstar. They did not have the Sharp model.

All prices were discounted for cash - believe it or not!

In the South, prices for the most basic started at 58 Euros (in Mega electric) up to 70 Euros, obviously they had fancy models at alot more.

These prices were in Superhome, Mega electric and Electroline.

If you are looking for cheap, then avoid these places!

Try the lady at Soyz market today... She will get one for you if she doesn't have one in stock.

Or there's Ucuzcu (the cheap man) down the road to the new harbour... cheap as chips.

You could try Techmar, opposite Lemar, not sure what their prices are but usually reasonable.

They are members on here, so may well come up with a reply later and they also have a web site.

I got mine from Techmar last October, is a basic model but like yourself all I need and the cost was 120TL. I would def try there as not only are their goods reasonably priced but the staff are really very good. Techmar is opposite Lemar in Karakum.

Would definately recommend Techmar. There after sales service is excellent so if your equipment goes wrong you don`t get the runaround. We use them for anything from washing machines to mobile phones

Techmar are a good company, not a here today, gone tomorrow and they really do have the aftersales staff and knowledge if things go wrong someday.

Hello everyone and thank you for your contributions. Yup I found one at Tunc I did not go there for a microwave I went for a step ladder and I saw they had some mwaves at 135ytl with a free dinner set. When I saw the dinner set I said I did not want it but sadly they made me take it. THe mwave seems to compare with ther cheaper ones mentioned on here. I only wanted a simple one. To be honest at that price and after the warranty they are disposable so not worried about after sales.

Sorry Simbas I do not live here but do visit when I can there aree so many wild places to visit and intersting natural history.

Thanks

One option for such smallish white goods is amazon.co.uk delivered to the South and collected from there.

Delivery is not as much as you might thing - for a small microwave around 10-11 pounds.

I bought a breadmaker via this route (model I wanted was not available in north ro south as far as I could determine) and it arrived fine , postage was 13.50 pounds and price of the item was very competetive. Its one option anyway. Took about 7 days to arrive, including a weekend.

Should be able to do this even without a south address. Just put collect from and the address of Nicosia main post office as the delivery address. Amazon will ship via dhl/ deuthsche post. They will give you a shipping number. With this shipping number and ID you can collect from south post office.
