Death threats against anyone are entirely wrong. Yet this newspaper owner has a long vendetta with the government and, it would seem, the TRNC as a whole. Many of the articles in this publication are biased and hand the Greek Cypriots fodder for their propaganda. Of course, the right way to combat this is to loudly condemn and prove them wrong, but unfortunately the TRNC lack either the will or the knowledge to manage this successfully. And so we have a viper at our bosom which rightly or wrongly the law has to protect.

Troodo, Are you are suggesting any news organisation that challenges the government in power is inviting armed attacks on their staff and offices? It's the job of newspapers to shake up the establishment and call them to account. The lack of that happening in the TRNC had directly resulted in people being scammed, ripped off, and duped by new and blatantly racist laws and regulations. Afrika is brave in the job it does standing up for ordinary people. If this thread had been about a missing dog or cat it would have attracted hundreds of views and posts. I hope those who prefer that kind of thing don't blame anyone but themselves when Turkey seizes their properties and deports them as unwanted foreigners when a peace deal is on the cards.

Zoots/Msg 3: Hear, hear, 'Zoots'!' - Your succinct assessment and warning of the whole reprehensible scenario and its very likely implications - viz a viz Turkey - should be loudly echoed; in fact, nailed to the walls, in the 'halls of the EU', until pressure is brought to bear on 'the powers that be', who are condoning, and indeed perpetuating, all these gross and sickening human rights violations.

Thanks man. I truly think that there are hundreds if not thousands of expats living or with a stake in the TRNC who care more about what's happening on Coronation Street than why this editor has been shot at. And previously had his office bombed. And has been arrested by Turkey for "insulting Turkishness" -in his native Cyprus. Like I said guys, when the Turkish army come for your keys and start deporting you to the British bases en masse, don't start whining that you weren't warned. People like Sener Levent make you look and your petty squabbles look like pygmies!

Msg 3. No. But it brought out some strangely disturbing remarks. I do believe it was the door that was shoot at and a message left, not the man himself.
