Three requests for information. Firstly, can anyone tell me whether the driving school close to the police station in Girne is open on Saturday? Secondly, does anyone have a name and phone number for a recommended, English-speaking instructor?

And thirdly, can anyone tell me if the Girne post office is open on Saturdays?

Thank you!

Thanks, denise. Hmm.. those opening hours aren't very helpful if you work full-time. Do you know what time they open in the mornings on weekdays? Might be able to get down there before work. Sorry, I should have asked that questions on my original post in the first place!

Thanks, denise. Much appreciated. I'll just have to get myself up and out of bed earlier!

Both my hubby and I took our lessons/test in August/Sept 2008.

We paid 1,000 TL each for a package which included the provisional licence, 10 lessons, the exam and a 1 year driving licence.

Obviously the charges would have gone up since then.

Ring Sami (0533 8341807) and ask him....very helpful guy.

Tell him Judy & Michael from Karsiyaka recommended him.

Not sure, icklepix. I did have a UK provisional licence but it ran out, so I hope I don't have to get a new one. Thanks loads, puppylover. I'll give Sami a call tomorrow, and I'll say you recommended him.

Thanks again.

Kate & Nicky

Have just spoken to Sami and obtained updated details for you.

Kate, you will have to obtain a TRNC provisional licence (they call it a student licence here) before you can take lessons.

The latest price for the package is 1,600 TL which includes the provisional licence, 13 lessons, the driving test and a 1 year driving licence.

As I stated I took the lessons and the test here.....at the age of 48 and I had never had a lesson in my life!

Good luck to you both.

Cheers puppylover, that's really kind of you to check that out for us. I had heard it cost about that much. Does anyone know if you have to pay upfront for the whole package? Cos I'd be hugely concerned about having to do that. And I don't have that kind of cash to shell out in one go anyway.

Thanks again puppylover.
