Yes this is the same Missy that was on here a while ago. She was rehomed with us and she was settling well in our family. We took her in under the impression that she was very good with children as we have 3 children. Unfortunately, she has become less and less tollerant of my younger 2 children and has started to snap at them and on a couple of occasions has caught their faces. Missy is a beautiful dog and although we would love to keep her we are afraid that she will be less tollerant of them in time. She is an old girl and needs to be with a family with no children or at least no young children so that she can relax and take it easy in peace. Please note that we will not be having her put down and will be keeping her with us until a suitable home is found for her. She will make someone a wonderful companion. Please email at kstrong3@hotmail.com or telephone me on 0533 841 8469 if you can help.

Thank you for your messages and info. I will contact KAR and see if they can help. It is such a shame as she really is beautiful and if she was in a home with no children she would be absolutely fine. She is just old and set in her ways. Bless her.

Ditto Msg 3. No-one would blame you - the buck lays with the original owners (if you have their contact details you lose nothing to let them know how she is with the children - they won't be back or have her back - but nefarious mendacious people need to be shown they have been rumbled and their lack of moral compass noted by all). When anyone gets old, they get painful bits here and there - and without a voice box, the only way to tell whomever is near them they feel in pain and grumpy, is to snap.........poor you having fallen in love with her, and poor Missy being passed on to strangers in her dotage - dogs feel sadness- and without anthropomorphising to the nth degree - if she was with her original family, although you are loving and caring - she is doubtless pining for the familiarity and maybe quieter erstwhile life - NOT your fault, but theirs for not keeping her and taking her with them, or maybe, if she is very old, just letting her be put to rest.

In fairness to the previous owners maybe there wasn't a problem with the dog and children before, perhaps the poor thing is just fretting which is making her snappy, and young children can be a bit loud and boisterous at times. I would hope that nobody would pass a dog on to people with children if there was a chance she could bite them. As cruel as it seems perhaps now the kindest thing would be to have this poor put to sleep rather than keep on re housing her.

Msg 11 - of course I am sorry to read one of the the last owners died. You and everyone else will understand my chagrin was because EVERY single day, we read of animals being left, abandoned, too costly to take home (although money is found for everything else) packs of feral animals roaming TRNC, et cetera......and it is those people who give everyone else advertising at the last minute, or abandoning their pets, a bad name. Missy may well have been good with children known to her, probably older than the present children, but to reiterate, if she is elderly, tolerance shown to 'familiar' family isn't easy to transfer to unknown family, especially if being elderly, she is now possibly arthritic (and also pining). I am glad she ended up with a loving family, but if she is snapping, they are in a difficult position now.

She is snapping and we have told the children to stay clear of her, if it happens again we will have to try to find a new home as it is the 2nd time it has happened. Otherwise the vets have curred her awful ear infection, she has been cleaned up and is the bill of health.

I agree that in her younger days she probably was fine with children of all ages and I really dont think that the previous owner mis informed us intentionally. She is just an old lady who likes peace and quiet and I am afraid that our home is neither of these. We have told the children to leave her be and stay away from her especially when she is resting and so far they have been very good we just want to find her a happy place to live out her days in peace.

Doola I really hope you do, for the sake of your family and missy. Perhaps she is grieving. They know these things. However your safety of the children has to come first. Good luck and missy was so lucky to have had you x

Andrew 4232, the previous owner's son, who took Missy on, was her last owner and he is the one who re-homed her so he would be contactable. The cats that were left behind by the original owners, about 11 of them, are still very much in evidence around the bungalow in the village. I have to sadly agree it would be kinder to put this old girl to sleep rather than uproot and unsettle her again.

Just watched on television, a Vet talking about a soldier killed on duty being flown home with his dog (with whom he worked) who died the next day from a seizure. The Vet was saying what all us dog owners instinctively know, that the animal has probably died through grief and stress of losing its Master. The Vet also said that medical science has identified areas in a dog's brain showing sadness and happiness........ I just wish all those owners that do abandon animals in TRNC or indeed, anywhere in the world, would bear that in mind, when paying to take their belongings home, yet leaving their family of animals behind to grieve...however kind their new owners may be (and often, unlike Missy's new owners - not so kind or understanding of the dog's needs and what it is used to, food wise, routine wise - in every way). Euthanasia should be employed more often IF someone really can't (or won't) take their loyal pet.

Re msg 18 a few years ago we had 2 cavalier spaniels one 11 andthe other 4 we had to take the old one to the vets to be put to sleep. The young one pined for her mate and 2 days later she had a stroke but fortunately she did recover and finally died at the age of 11.The vet said that he thought the stroke had been brought on by her grieving for her pal so it isnot only the loss of the dogs master that can cause problems.

I agree with all the comments but I have to say that the thought of having Missy put down makes feel sick. I know that she cannot stay here with us our children must come first so we really hope that we can find her a loving home very soon. We know Tom and have his contact details but as far as I know he is now back in England. We do not in way hold him responsible for the situation we are in now and dont blame him in any way we just want Missy to be happy.

Definately an older couple (or even slightly younger with older children) that have plenty of time to give her lots of fuss and love but also the time and peace to relax and take it easy. Someone must want this beautiful old girl. x

This situation is really an impossible one for Doola and her family. They took in Missy because no-one wanted to see her put to sleep. Unfortunately the environment wasnt the right one Missy, who it seems had spent a long time alone and isnt used to having other dogs and certainly not children around. Doola can no longer keep Missy in her home, as she has begun snapping at the other 2 dogs, who will not stand for it and of course there is the more serious problem of her snapping at the children. This is the last chance for Missy, is there anyone out there who can offer this dog a home, she is approx 8 years old, set in her ways and in need of a quiet home with no young children to live out the last of her years. Please contact Doola on the number in the first post asap if you are able to help. many thanks
