Don't know Guzelyurt area for fans etc but banks: I would say use a Turkish bank - IsBank, Turk Bank, or an overseas bank, Credit West. All accounts are allegedly underwritten by Government up to 30,000 Euros per account, so spread moneys over a few accounts. In the past, a few local (Cyprus banks) have gone under, so although they offer higher YTL interest, use carefully, maybe put a few YTL there for a little extra interest, but remember, higher returns means higher risks. Good luck with it.

Hi Linus, I have heard very good reports here in Kyrenia about Iktisat, they have an English person in there for us foreigners, but as to security etc, it's anyone's guess. I also believe the Limasol is a big bank, but don't know any more than that. However I can't believe there is no IsBank or TurkBank there. Click on the banking link on the bottom of the main page, just under the page numbers, loads of threads there with other info. Cheers Brian

I purchased some really good ceiling fans from superhome center from the south they cost about 100 euros and were remote controlled in satin stainless steel with a 75watt dimmer light as well. They have a good range but i would highly recommend the remote controlled ones as when you are in bed you can dim the lights and turn on teh fan

Linus - No, electakur are fine. We bought 6 fans / light fittings from them and they have been very good - quality almost as good as 'Fantasia' as stocked in John Lewis. We paid £50 each and they fitted all of them for YTL 100 - the guy was there for a good 4 -5 hours and did a great job - ceiling fans are quite tricky to fit. Fantasia fans in the UK are around £250 each. Eletrakur are on the Lefkosia roundabout in Girne. Hope that helps.

Linus I would stick to the banks that are from Turkey such as Turk bank as they are bigger and less risky A few years ago a lot of people got in trouble with Kibris bank who went bust Susie x

ataturk 'Electrokur will give you a shock with their prices they are by the main roundabout in Girne the one which goes to lefkosia' Its not what I have found, I regard there prices as being reasonable and once they get to know you they give a good discount. I use them all of the time. AJ

Thanks for the advice everybody. A few people now seems to be saying either stick to Turkish Bank or use HSBC for protection as they are in the EU. I need to make a decision soon.
