paddy I am so touched. I cant beleive it. Bertie does need help quickly after all her has been through. I vowed I would not take charity but if its the way to help him how can I not. I cant bear his suffering, I would rather take his pain. I feel humble and sad. I cant beleive Blades kind message from Terry and Sara. We have had like most buisnesses here awful times and money is just not to be had. Rolow I understand your sentiment but I do my bit for kids also. Espicially Ismail. Children in need and SOS.Your kindness has made me cry. All I want is for him to walk again. xx

Lilli, can you find out if they take a card payment from UK? Just a thought but if each of the members on this forum paid £1.00 there would be enough money to help Bertie and donate some extra to KAR for future emergencies.....surely one pound each would not break anybodys bank......?

In the other thread "nikegirl" wrote: "There is a great lady vet in Lefkosa who does operations if you don't want to wait for someone to fly over from Turkey. My little puppy broke her leg last year and the vet fixed it and it's now perfect. She is really reasonably priced as well. I think I paid less than 100TL and that included an xray and anaesthetic costs. " So, why all this fund-raising for what seems to be a fairly low bill? What does Bertie's x-ray show?

swyflot, if it is a fractured hip. It might even be a fractured pelvis. I was just wondering what the x-ray showed which was missed by 2 vets, one of whom is a professor. It is worrying if vets are missing things or even finding expensive things that don't exist as has happened to us.

560 views and we still haven't raised the money. Shame on you guys, so called dog lovers! If everyone who had viewed this post had donated 1tl, Bertie would have been fixed by now! The longer this poor dog is left the more risk to his life there is!! What a wonderful community we have here. I did get a call this morning and i understand the vet Mustafa has also donated 100tl towards Berties op. So we now have 200tl and 500tl to find. Thanks to those offering from the uk, i will try and find out if it is possible for the vet to take card payments? Maybe Lilli could take the payments directly on the phone? Hold on in there Bertie we will raise this money!

I have not long got in from work. When I read all this I couldnt stop crying. Your kindness has made me feel so very humble. As Blade says time is all important now. Complications could now set in with the amount of time lost. Fulhamfan would it be OK for me to go to see kevin. I thank you so much. Also Britvic and each and everyone one of you. Just to let you know that we aslo have a paypal account, from what I understand you go into paypal and put our email address in which is guidoandliz@yahoo.co.uk . Where you can pledge any amount you wish towards Berties operation. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To get Bertie up and walking again is all my prayers answered.

Hope Bertie recovers well, Lilli, We have just had one of our Staffies, Penny put down whilst on op table as tumor they found was too big for her to be saved. We are devastated. Rowlo, do not know if you have or have had pets, Our Penny was 11years old and was like having a daughter in many ways, we walked her every day, played with her, cuddled her and loved her as much as our real daughter but in a different way to have a pet that length of time is always very hard to lose.

Hi jimjams. He never ever got out before. The little madam Valentine whom loves the big house up the road decided she would shake the patio door until she could release it.They were locked in. Of course Bertie being a man followed her.He never ever left the house he would sit all day if needs be on the patio. He isnt the same Bertie as the one you know from the stumble. Bertie was a stray dog with a red earing from the Lapta/Karsyakia area. Seems he was well known and well liked on his travels there. He came to me and never left even though his home at that time was with Salih at the Green Valley restaurant. I kept taking him back but every day he returned until Salih said let him free he is a free spirit. He used to spend his time with Rose when she was at Bellvue and Jaficas . I couldnt put him on the main road so took him home. 2 years ago now. I love him to bits. x

Martin not much longer now, maybe tomorrow or saturday .Lizzy thank you so much you are very kind. Paddy we are nearly there. I thank each and every one of you. He actually took himself of the sofa today and followed Guido and the other two out. Spoke with Terry and he will be seen in the next day or two before other complications can set in.Your kindness to Bertie and us has been so tremendous and I really cant thank you enough. He used to drive me mad every breakfast time as he would sit and wait for me to give him my food, all this week when he couldnt do it I really missed it.I am dreading him going through the op but as long as he is mended then we can all move on and help him with his recovery . The hardest thing has been the worry and the not knowing. To all the people who call in or stop me when I am out to ask about him I thank you also. Will keep you all posted and to let you know also if you have followed the story of Tessa well she has a fantastic new family to go to very s

Paddy it wont do that. Its because I work until 4pm and only in for an hour and a half before I go back. Got away early tonight as there is some italians in and Guido can do that on his own. Bertie is such a little star, he was on here for a very long time when I first had him desend on me. He is a real character. He was a street dog who seemed to know and was loved in every bar he went in.He turned up on me and just wouldnt go no matter how many times I took him back to the place he stayed, back he came. I love him so much all his funny ways.So all that remains is for you to wish him the best and pray for him. x

Shrimp it is, I am so scared. I know it needs to be done to get my boy back . Speaking to Terry earlier the aftercare and medication a factor I had not thought about. The little bugger got himself of the sofa and followed Mojo, Valentine and Guido Like don't leave me out. He slept for a long time after. I was on the computer doing menus and there he was beside me so again he came off the sofa.Terry and Sara have been so supportive as is their vet whom I do not know but Terry will take me thought it all , Blade I cant thank enough and for all the donations you are real stars. You know the donations with the exception of a few came from UK. From people I do not even know. WOW a very big thank you. Now its in god we trust xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh Paddy just to have a glass of the blackstuff. heaven. Bertie loves tea earl grey and a drop or two of pino. The poor bugger when he came to me I didn't have a clue about his diet, Off he went To Pertev, chicken and rice he said, all my strays however after got chicken and rice. Then one day Guido was cleaning a Danielle Parma Ham. Boy did that little soul want it. He stayed in the restaurants balcony around 3 weeks , so if anyone lost him they could claim him , when we knew he came home with us. To this day he loves parma, salami any cheese and pasta, I ask him should I serve you Chianti love. He is very fussy for a street dog. saying that its all my fault/ xxxxxxxxxxx. I will qwish you a very happy day on Irelands own day I will remember.

Liz, I can't afford much as I have one cat sick who I have to get expensive medication for, from the internet, and yesterday one of my others became really ill and Pertev is having blood tests done for him and x-rays, so not a lot to spare, but every little helps. I do hope he is able to have the operation soon and recovers well.xx

Hi Lilli I just wondered how much the bill for Bertie's op is going to be and if you called Sena for a quote. Surely the money raised will be plenty to cover the cost? Hope he gets well soon xx

Nikegirl, The vet Sena you are talking about is friends with the vet Mustafa. I know them both and Sena isn't always available here , she also works elsewhere. Its the drugs which cost the most in any op. With these kind of ops their is always two vets present, one doing the work and the other assisting. From what i was told Mustafa was not charging for his work only the drugs and the assistant vet. Both of the above vets are two of the three best vets on the island. Pertev is the other. Come on everyone dig deep for Bertie.

Just discovered how expensive a broken hip can be: "Yes, my dog had a hip fracture several years ago. I took her to the vet, and he said that it would be about $6000 to perform surgery and aftercare. He also stated that most dogs can heal on their own much easier than people, and would probably be OK in a couple of months if left untreated. In 3 months she was running and playing with our male dog, and no problems since." Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_a_dog_survive_hip_fracture_without_surgery#ixzz1GMlI7OUb

Lilli, i can assure you nothing to worry about. Mustafa is top class, he has just spayed my bitch and she is doing super well. I went to him on the recomendation of Terry & Sara @ Top Dog and i can't speak highly enough of him. A true animal lover and great vet. Who is confident and qualified enough to do his own operations! And doesn't rip you off just because your a brit.

Is this the bertie that used to be around Lapta? a big black wire haired dog? He used to go into the 'filling station' and used to wander back even when any one found a home for him! Just curious thats all. ... As when over last time didn't see him around ...

Dizzy he was a street dog around Karysakia. He is a beautiful pointer white with large brown spots. He was around manya bar I beleive and was taken in by Green Valley restaurant. He found me I took him back when I knew who owned him. This went on for days and then weks, the more I took him back the more he came back. Salih said take him let him free as he is a free spirt. Well even though he knew all the bars and had wonderful road sense, I couldnt let him on that main road with the mad drivers. I kept him for 3 weeks in the restaurant in his kennel, on the balcolny out back.No one wanted him so I took him home as it was summer months and I didnt want him to suffer the heat on a balcony. DD and Brit know him. He is not that street dog any longer as we have just seen. He loves his home and is so content. It was so oout of character but miss valentine seems to get all male dogs under her spell. Anyway he has been done, home resting in fact sleeping now. Back in two weeks for further ass
