Without international monitors any census or election in TRNC is meaningless and not to be trusted. Especially since the last one claimed a mere 44% of the population were settlers. Unbelievable...

Yes of course YFred but I was looking at it in the sane context that 'Zoots' is looking at it. Europeans have the right to live and work anywhere in the EU community. What I was asking Zoots was how many non Europeans are living in the South and are they living in/on former TC property. My guess is he has not got a valid answer.

Do we discount the Russians and Philipinos in the South if they have a census? Seems to be a large number of both of late???

havali msg 3, I'm not "worried" about the N Cyprus population. I pointed out that no reliable figures are available and that since the last census laughably claimed there were more Turkish Cypriots than settlers, local figures are not to be trusted. Therefore international monitors are needed if people want to get the truth.

AJ, Settlers in the south are mostly legal and documented to EU standards.

Zoots You are obviously aware of the falsification of TC owned title deeds by the ROC Land Registry changing ownership to GC's who have sold on to Russians. If you are not then I suggest you do some research. The 'owners' of the land/property have sold because the issue has become a bit of a hot potato and they want a quick return without any complications. Interesting times and it is already starting to become an embarrassment to the ROC government. Watch this space!

Zoots You are having a laugh. 'Settlers in the south are mostly legal and documented to EU standards.' Tell me what the ROC does to EU standards. They will take anyone that brings money into the ROC. No money laundering in the ROC? So tell me what the documentation process to EU standards involves. I like the bit about 'settlers being mostly legal' so who are the ones that are not legal?

"..Eroglu did not clarify if the census will be held in the presence of international observers or under the UN auspices..." Why would they want to be present?

AJ, Any criminal tampering with title deeds should be cracked down on and people have been jailed in the south for selling TC property. How many people have been jailed in the TRNC for selling thousands of GC properties to unsuspecting Brits who now have worthless title deeds and an uncertain future? As for the cases you mention, I've searched the internet and nothing jumps out about Russians being sold TC property with falsified deeds. Can you provide a link please?

Bandieles, what have you got against the poor TCs who moved 2,500 miles away from home from a country that pays their workers even when they are on strike to a third world country? Look what they gave you in return, the beautiful island paradise. What more do you need?

AJ, 1. The RoC is obliged to comply with all EU regulations unless exempt. 2. Of course there is money laundering on both sides of Cyprus. 3. EU citizens have freedom of movement and employment. For others see here: http://www.cyprusvisa.eu/cyprus-residence-visa-requirements.html 4. Illegals hide away as they do in every EU country. BTW, I don't think Cyprus should have been admitted to the EU as it was before a settlement. Sent out the wrong signals. Over to you.
