Aviation News Release March 9, 2011



"Flights to and from Spain face potentially serious disruption over Easter due to a threatened strike by airport staff.



And there are fears that a series of ongoing stoppages could spill over into the peak summer holiday period.

The strike organisers intend to begin their action on April 20, disrupting Easter weekend holiday flights.

They have earmarked dates in May, June, July and August for more industrial action, involving airport runway staff.



The planned stoppages are a protest against Spanish government plans to sell off parts of AENA, the state-owned firm which runs Spain’s key airports.



The company has said that baggage handlers and air traffic controllers will not be affected by the dispute.



Ryanair has appealed to the European Commission to step in and ensure that millions of passengers’ travel plans this summer are not disrupted."
