Hi there

At the moment our newly acquired pooch is being fed on chappie, which comes in 3KG bags. We went down that route as we used chappie in the UK. Not sure if it is the same stuff, but it certainly goes down well.

Any how I am looking for some personal recommendations from fellow dog owners about what type you feed, and possibly the best buys. I did wonder if there might be a pet food trader in the trading estate by the Lefkosa football ground?

Thanks in anticipation

Buy, chicken/necks/gizzards/hearts/livers , at very little cost and boil them for 1/2 hour. then add two packets of pasta to the boiled meat and allow to absorb the moisture whilst cooling. (4 packs of chicken to two packs of pasta will give 10 days meals - mixed with dog dry-food, for a medium size dog) Freeze as required. Do NOT add salt.

I definitely recommend Royal Canin dry food. It is the best quality that you can get over here and it helps to keep coat and body condition even in the summer.

Eukanuba, large bag around 120tl, no more expensive than Chappie and much better for them.

Cook for your dog, if you truely knew what was in those dry foods you wouldn't ever feed them again.

Birdman has to be taking the proverbial! I would rather strangle the pooch that Pfaff around like that, let alone the wasted freezer space FFS.

Birdman, watch the protein levels with chicken meats can get a little high but ok if it is a small mix with dry food - our pointer develops a spotty chin on too much protein.

Started mine off on Love Dog but now mix that with Eukanuba and another brand that is stocked by Lemar - that seems to do the trick and is a good all round balance. Of course they don't get bits of toast and curry and fish and spuds and anything else we eat - not much they don't but then these are two energetic pointers who get walks twice a day. Keeping a careful eye on them and they do just fine - change of diet for summer months also helps and plenty of water available all year round is essential with dry dog food.

Would never, ever feed them canned dog food after I found out what went into that stuff particularly in the USA where they even use dead dogs/cats in the mix - not nice at all.

Lots of love, lots of walks, lots of chew things to help their teeth and they will be fine.

Are we lucky?

Our dog which is a cross between a Kangol and a pointer, who we have had since she was weeks old as she was the runt of a litter of 13 eats any kind of dog food (if no human food available). But loves Zola which are all fish based foods and really hard to get. Having never had a dog before we got here maybe we didn't think it out properly but if its cheap most of the time she gets it, eats it and enjoys it.

I would recommend Eukanuba, I add a little bit of wet food to it sometimes & a drop of warm water not much but my dog will eat it like this. Plenty of bottle water.
