Girls will have fun learning to belly dance. A mini make over with glitter & sparkles will add to their magical experience.

We start the event by decorating them with face jewels, glitter & hip scarves to get the magic going. I will dance for them so they can see what fun is in store. We will go over some of the basic movements and steps. Then by getting them to follow me, the movements will become a dance.

15tl for the hour

A great mother daughter experience, If your interest to include your child please email - turkan2001@hotmail.com

I am sure Tukan is well aware of the early sexualisation of young girls in the UK and her own professional responsibility when teaching her art to young girls. As mothers we all agree that North Cyprus is the ideal place to enjoy an innocent childhood. Sparkles and glitter are part of every little girls life, I can't see it does any harm for one hour on a Saturday afternoon to dress up and have fun. There are many benefits to learning belly dancing, which include creating positive self image and nurturing self expression, both very important for young girls development. Belly Dancing is an art form and part of the culture here, passed through the generations by the family.

There are very few organised activities for young children in the area and personally I think this initiative is to be applauded.

Ah bless you what a beautiful appreciation of what mind set im looking to achieve, most things in life can be abused and bellydancing unfortunatly is one of them, used to manipulate. What I want is the little girls to enjoy the colour, sound, fun and thrill of it. To see me dance and capture the entertainment aspect of it and yes the culture continuing. It warms my heart to be noticed to be reinstalling a healthy mind on this subject of bellydance, be it for young or old.

Thank you pogle xx

Please forgive me if i am wrong, but i have always been under the influence that bellydancing was a sexual dance that was performed to get the man in the mood...?

However several years later it is an accepted sort of keep fit programme designed to make women feel sexy...but still men find it sexually stimulating...is this really what you want your little girl practicing....?

I truly don't want to cause upset here, but i do think that this sort of provocative dancing should be kept hidden at least until the child has gone past puberty and is able to make up her/his own mind....

i respect all views, yet I would prefer to stay away from debate.anyone who knows me knows me for morals and principles, I teach this art as a discipline that all adults and children need.

Please can you help me do that and keep debate at bay.

With all respects Turkan - I have no doubts about you good intentions and values - BUT I have to agree with the facts

a) Belly dancing is believed to be brought into Middle East and Europe more than a thousand years ago by the Gypsies travelling from Indıa through Afghanistan, Persia and Turkey and actually picking up/developingthe dance from the residents of Mesopotamia.

b) Performing in muslim Middle East countries in very revealing and provocative outfits, where women were kept under chadırs and covers from head to toes, for the right price, their services included more than just dancing.

c) Belly dancing - traditionally used in Harems and places alike in the Middle East to get The Sultan (or high ranking men of the court) turned on sexually,

d) Later became a tool for muslim communities' places of entertaintment of mainly men, (where official prostitution was forbidden)

e) In modern times it became a tourist attraction. (to be continued...)

The above adds fuel to the worries of many Western society members, where in recent years there has been unprecedented levels of child abuse - much publicised by the media. That being the case, although a Cypriot by birth and by culture, living in Cyprus, and having also lived a long time in England, the first thing that first thing that came to my mind after reading your post was "hold on! Isn't there a law against this?". That was before I went on to read some objections that followed.

With no disrespect to any modern belly dancer or their art, I believe there is a valid point point to be made. Whilst it is all good for the adults to learn this - and give a private performance to their partners to bring colour to their relationship or be able to do the real thing at a party or a club when out with friends, for me it is a "NO!" for children since it would be in par with displaying them as sex objects. I certainly would not like to see 7-12 year olds doing the Can Can! Would you?

Bigoz, you are braver than I, but now you have said it I have to agree with you, I certainly wouldnt want my little girl doing this. We went to see a wonderful belly dancer last time we were over, the women loved it but the men were winking, nudging each other and the sexual overtones were there for all to see......it would be like little girls over in the UK having pole dancing lessons ....definately not! Keep it for the adults in my opinion

Ok enough now please, your taking something very innocent and colourfully fun for the children away for them. I am a mother and my daughter will be there.there is absolutely no sordidness in what im doing.i send out an invitation to all those who disaproove to come and re educate their minds.i have taught at schools in the uk and mothers have been happy with what they have seen.

I conclude those who disaproove dont book your child, please leave this one off project to the mothers who have decided their daughters would love it.

If you look at the videos on MTV that children watch - in my opinion belly dancing is very tame! It is a tradition that should be continued and I think turkan is providing a much needed activity that girls will love. Also the glitter, etc makes it like a party event. I cannot see anything sordid in this, they are not going to be watched by men. I would think that the lessons will be attended mothers and children only. Good luck turkan. x

RE.Msg 26: 'Belly Dancing is an art form and part of the culture.....'

Some may consider belly dancing as a 'tart form', rather than an art form - especially where pre-pubescent girls are concerned.

Remember that in UK, one is not even allowed to take a photo of one's own child appearing at the local school play - a PC law introduced to help prevent paedophilia.

I'm no prude, but am I alone in my belief that children should be allowed to have as natural a childhood as possible and not be cajoled into taking part in adult activities depicting overt sensuality - such as belly dancing?

think people with dirty minds comes to mind little girls like to dance and dont feel anything just happiness so why all the big fuss over a bit of belly dancing its hardly making them do pole dancing is it ,,,, that i would object too ,
