sounds good to me nunu

Another way oif framing this is:

Those of you who are successfully living in the TRNC, how have you achieved this? How have you made it work?

Expectations are very important.

Be prepared that things work slightly different in NC. Some things take longer to happen.

-Do not stress over these too much. -

Financially, one should be quite secure as it is not very easy to earn enough money to live in luxury.

-So a nice pot of savings comes handy.-

Just my views.

I would guess you'd have to have a 'laid back' attitude.

Seems a bit negative Brian, surely you move abroad somewhere with the expectation things are going to be better otherwise why move?

I haven’t moved abroad so can’t comment on tips for moving to TRNC but I have moved from Lancashire to Wiltshire and one of the things I found paramount was seeking out new friends by joining a local ladies rugby team.

Friends make a place and you need to make friends as they wont come to you!

WG,

Negative or realistic?

Let other members comment and decide.

Don't misunderstandme, life in NC is far better overall than the UK, wouldn't go back there unless the kids needed to, but reliability of [not all] services, people etc, can seem a bit of let down.

It's a place where 'the system' overall, infrastructure, running of business', running of services etc all seem to find their way to the lowest common denominator. Probably true of most countries, but more noticeable in NC.

But overall, very happy with life, I just don't expect too much of people/services, and am very happy when the general trend is proven wrong, as it is occasionally.

As you rightly say, friends are paramount, and easy to make when abroad, especially when you have kids (even our two), as we have done just that, but all our friends comment the same, one has shut hi business, another is closing a business and returning to the UK, the general feeling is one of retreat, not a trend we will follow, but the trend is there.

Hope this qualifies my comment a little, good luck in the scrum!

Cheers

Brian

If you are retired, just chill out, do not worry about the queue in the bank, police, immigration etc. You have all the time in the world.

You are no longer in the UK, accept the lifestyle and methodology of your adopted home.

Things always happen eventually here, just think something will be late and when it is early it is a nice surprise.

TO Survive

Stick a couple of hundred grand into a ytl account to increase your pension savings , work on the fiddle on the black market you can do at least £400 a week if you have a trade, buy sod all in the North as you are bound to be ripped off, enjoy weather, Greek hospitality , and bargains from Brits returning to Uk

I'm not living in the TRNC at present but my strategy would be to attempt to speak Turkish (the best I could) get to know my neighbours as best I can (like AJ says), smile alot, learn the local customs and give thanks everyday that I am living in a beautiful climate with wonderful scenery.

Also as DN says have some money in the back and be prepared to adapt. Also as most have said be patient.

aaaahhhh, I want to be there now. Least the sun is shining brightly in the UK

I would run with all that but add Strongbow to the list. A little on the expensive side but they sell it in Tempo.

msg 15,

"...enjoy Greek hospitality..."

Only one Greek Cypriot left in Kyrenia these days (lovely lady) but a few hundred still live in the Karpass. Good on you for your diversity.
