Top quality choice Bill! It is a little known fact that in the book of the silence of the lambs the wine that accompanied Hannibal's dinner of human liver was Barolo not chianti as in the dumbed down film. Personally I always recommend it with Venison as it accomp-anies the strong flavours. Does anyone sell it in TRNC? Harold

Everyone of us has different taste for wine, what need to be consider is what we eat and after choose the wine. It's impossible to say one or another so many to choose from. My personal choice is a good pomerol with red meat and Puligny Montrachet premier cru for white. Guido Then again what do i know.

Mentioning Yakut in the same sentence as an alternative to Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC... blimey! I must have tried an off bottle.. As Lilli points out everybody's tastes vary. I don't appreciate over-egged 'New World' wines that taste of every nuance other than grapes... E.g. Too much oak, too much chocolate, too much caramel, too much of this that and every other wine tasting definition. Some of them are so complex I can't think of a foodstuff I'd like to consume with them.. The art of wine-making is about knowing when to stop with the flavours just as much as it is making the wine interesting. I go for outright flavour of grapes. It's a sad fact that Italy consumes more good wine than it produces making it a net importer of good wine. This has the effect of making good Italian wine prohibitively expensive outside of Italy. It is tough to find a good Chianti, Bardolino or Barolo at a reasonable price. I don't want to pay silly money for wine.

groucho, I posted that. I agree with you but the wines above mention are expensive in Italy too. The denominazione controllata for wine garantee the quality and unfortunatelly as u can immagine has tax to be paid for. Consequently the charges get reversed effecting the price greatly. We have a lots of good wines in Italy at very resonable prices but we do not export those. You need to know what and where to buy. Guido Then again what do i know
