How long is a piece of string. Seriously, a lot depends on where they buy, what type of title, how long it takes to get Permission to Purchase etc. I think your friend should go to HOME BUYERS PRESSURE GROUP page where Marion Stokes (who runs the HBPG) has put details of costs incurred when buying. Yes it can take years and if your don't get Permission to Purchase you are on a hiding to nothing.. No Kocan - No Money.

Your friend would do well to rent a furnished accommodation here for a minimum of six months before making any decisions. Also of course, you do not say whether it will be an investment or a home.

Very much a case of BUYER BEWARE and be aware here.

Hi,

As Pauline says it all depends on who you buy from and who is willing to sign over the title deeds once you have received your permission to purchase. We bought in April 2006 have had our ptp for well over 2 years but no sign of any title deeds yet. If you buy a resale with title deeds then I think your frien would stand a better chance of getting them than buying a new build. My advice is never buy off plan, it is just not worth the hassle and worry of whether it will ever get finished.

Don't bother with the homebuyers group. Just load of disgruntled buyers out to ruin everything for everyone because they were stupid and got conned.

Talk to those people who did it the right way!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but to apply for your ptp, you must give the address that you are planning to buy.

It took my daughter and son in law just over 12 months to get theirs.
