I know this is a very well worn question but does anyone have up-to-date information on the duty payable on vehicle importation?

Don't go there - it's way way to expensive and you'll pull your hair out with the red tape...

There are plenty of Ex pats selling up and going home - you'll bag a bargain for sure....

Good afternoon

Depends on the engin size. vehicles over 1600cc are subject to the following, on the understanding that they are under 3 years old at date of import, or under 5 if you have owned it from new. Import duty will be 68% of Glass Guide mid range price if the car is Non European in origin. If European then the tax will be 48%. On top of this tax is a further duty of $11,000 US. You then have to pay in the region of 1000YTL in road tax and registration and 50YTL for number plates. All monies are payable in YTL. It will also take you approx 3 - 4 days to complete this process and probably cost you £100 "Bung" to an official to smooth things through. You can avoid this "Bung" by paying a "Fixer" to help you. This "Fixer" is a retired governmen official who used to work in the office before retiring. Expect to pay approx £175 for this service. It is seen as an agmentation to their state pension.

Hope this helps

Vince

I will be selling my Jeep soon and its only 6 months old

Unless you have an exceptional vehicle of any reason I would think several times before bringing. There are good deals to be had here if you look around of all makes of cars, new or s.h.

You can pick up some real bargains on top of the range if you have the cash. All the Cypriots who bought with proceeds of selling land etc and then could not afford payments!!

I've been caught out with official misinformation. They are trying to get £10K off me for a car that is worth just about that in the UK. I feel like setting fire to it rather than let that bunch of robbers in the goverment have the money! What are they trying to do? Drive everybody away from the place?
