Been coming and going since 96 but im here a bit more often now, well pretty much living here to be honest. Should we get refused residency what will happen to us ? They keep saying you need to get residency but im worried we may be refused and if that happens does that mean we can still come by visa weather they like it or not. Thanks..

Why would you be refused? In any event, unless you really want to stay more than three months at a time, why bother..

Ok lets try and look at this logically. When you first apply for temporary residency there could be a number of reasons why you would be refused, First of all you would need to prove that you can support yourself (and your partner) and they will need to see up to date bank statements for proof. They will also do a check to see whether you have been in trouble with the police or you have been identified by external police forces as being an 'undesirable'. Although having said that some have managed to get around that particular problem. The only other problem that I can think of is if you are under the age of 60 then you will need to have a blood and TB test to make sure you are not bringing any nasty diseases in with you. Oh there is one more thing. If you are not married but living with your partner then that can also cause problems but they are not insurmountable. Continued;

Continued: The only other thing I can think of is your proof of abode. You will need one of the following, registered sales contract, title deeds or a rental agreement. And to make it easier for you any of these options should show yours and your wife/partners name. Most parts of the above equation are solvable. If you have any other worries then please feel free to contact me by e-mail.

Oh and in answer to your original question, it would depend on the reason for refusal as to what would happen next.

AJ i appreciate your time writing all that out but my question is for example im refused because i can't show enough money in the bank or i have a police record for instance. What happens next ? Will i be booted of The Island or will i just be allowed to stay via visa. Thanks

It sounds like you might have to leave the island for a few days every 3 months and come back for another 90 days. I don't think RoC qualifies as leaving.

Depends on what they feel like at the time you apply.

The 90 day thing is being tightened, I know a few people who have been told only 30 days now, some of them have managed to squeeze 90, So I should not rely on that. Also I do not mean to be disrespectful in any way, but if you cannot support yourself financially how can you be here? I did not think the Police check came into residency, if I am wrong I stand corrected, The only time that we had a clean record was when we set up our company. I tend tp agree with message 9.

cyprusjoker All I can say is that most problems are sortable although a police record might be a little bit harder to sort out. I am trying to work out whether you are posing a hypothetical question or whether you have real concerns.

JohhnyLee The police check is a 'flag' check and will tell the police if there are any outstanding serious charges against the applicant and this information is provided by typically the UK and any other countries that work closely with the TRNC. This is totally different to the checks required for PTP.

I dont seem to be getting anywhere here. Lets just say i went to get my residency and was refused because i wasn't able to show enough funds. What happens next ? Do i have to leave or can i stay on a visa. Thank you all

You can reapply if you can show documentation proving any substantial source of funds that you forgot to show them the first time around. Otherwise it is out of the country (not to the South) to renew your 90 days entry visa. Do not even think about overstaying your 90 days.

Bit of a silly answer but, why not just ask at immigration? Ask at the police station as well and you will have a better idea - just remember that by the time you have your answer and have gone out the door, the rules will have changed again. Good luck.

As far as I am aware, you have to produce a Scotland Yard reference for Permission to Purchase but not for Residency. You do have to have an x ray and blood tests for the first application, and if you are under 60 a blood test every year. Why bother, once you are in the system, it's the devil's own job to get out and the fines for not renewing on time etc. are a bind. If what you have been doing so far works, why change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. To answer your question, if you were refused, then the system you have been using will still work. The only reason you would be refused entry would be if you were deported.

Msg 16, no x ray required, just blood test for the under 60's.
