The Irish blew them away. But don't get too excited because the Northern Hemispheres best hope for the world cup is still gonna be England and France.

marydoll19 msg 1 - you sound like a Scots football supporter 'anyone can win as long as it is not England' The joy is in winning not creating jibes at the losers. The Northern Hemisphere (sporting) mentality is such that it doesn't matter if you are bad as long as there are worse teams than you....very sad. This is why the Southern Hemisphere countries wipe the floor with us at rugby & Asia in general will 'clean up' as a result of financial globalisation, effectively stripping the wealth out of Europe as we sit in the UK in particular pointing out that it is 'okay' as each of us is 'less bad' than the other.... And eventually there will be nothing left to argue about...

As an England supporter I was disappointed however Ireland were the better team and I congratulate them. I was quite amused at the Scottish supporters who I saw last week being gutted when they lost turning up in Irish shirts and cheering loudly at every point. 2 things to say really, if I had been a Scotland supporter I would have been proud of my teams performance as I and my English rugby supporter friends thought Scotland need praise for putting a good game on. This is largely the difference and probably what gets up others noses, English recognise and compliment good performances and sportsmanship, this has also been my experience of the Irish, I cannot speak for the Welsh as I have yet to experience a game in Wales personally. My second point is you really do look like total pillocks when you lose one week and switch sides the following week to join the Anybody but England brigade, it would be sad it it was not so funny! Good luck Wales if you win you deserve it.

It only goes to show how absolutely pathetic some people can be when they see England winning things and some of the comments on here are downright racist. Envy is a very negative place to be.. grow up!

I seem to recall someone on here in the not too distant past making a comment about the "English army" and its always *England this* and *England that* so its not too surprising that some turn it on us sometimes because we tend to think we are the only ones who count in the BRITISH ISLES

I am one of the ABE group for the simple reason that the English teams and their fans seem to think it is their God given right to win any game/tournament they play in!

English baiters, you'll never learn, jealousy and envy encapsulated in stupid and childish displays reminiscent of a schoolboy exhibiting the deep rooted paranoia of an also ran. Sad to see, but very funny? Keep it up!

as a Scottish football supporter who has not been able to watch his team in any major tournaments for quite a while...I will continue to support any team who are playing against a team that we cannot beat in any tournament we cannot qualify for.....very childish I know...but the arrogance of some of the commentators (including Andy Gray. Alan hansen who are Scottish) in assuming England will win everything they qualify for ....can't watch any match in World Cup without commentators talking about England....constant referrals to 1966 etc ....nothing personal , but is really is annoying....just a bit of banter to support whover plays against England, and it keeps me amused and gives me an interest in the major tournaments.

Its only a game!!! However, I did see the England -v- Ireland match yesterday and as an English person I was disappointed to see England lose. I was hoping for a nail biter of a game where the match flowed from end to end but this didn't happen and the Irish were undoubtedly the better team and fully deserved to win against a lacklustre English team.

| Taken from Paul Ackford's column in the Sunday Torygraph: QUOTE Things we like Andy Robinson’s facial contortions; Warren Gatland highlighting the fickle nature of rugby reporting where teams, players and coaches are brilliant one moment, rubbish the next; Italy’s progress; the atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium; the bacon sandwiches at England’s media sessions; a code of conduct across the tournament which puts football to shame. | yes has it not eejit this below is why we think the English need taking down a peg or two with their smarmy attitudes The RFU has denied that England took the challenge posed by Ireland lightly after an embarrassing advertisement celebrating the Grand Slam was leaked. The video, produced by their official kit supplier Nike, shows several players, among them Toby Flood, Chris Ashton and Ben Foden, in a series of action clips. England were hammered 24-8 by Declan Kidney's side in Dublin on Saturday to end their hopes of a first clean sweep since 2003, making a mockery of the advert's final frame, an image of the red rose emblem on top of a caption reading 'Grand Slam Champions 2011'. Says it all really dont you agree |

Any Nation on the verge of a grand slam would have sponsors preparing to take the most advantage of such a win, it makes good business sense. This is nothing to do with the team. Any un-blinkered business like person would be able to see that.

As islandgirl says strictly business and Nike's problem really, but somewhat embarrassing anyway. I wonder if it ever crossed the minds of the other competitors sponsors to even consider similar? Anyhow "swarmy" England did win the tournament. That's what counts, not the ungracious attitudes of the paranoid perochials. Love it!
