Does anyone know if the DYSON brand is sold here?

I am looking for the cylinder type rather than the upright model.

Thanks.

No, the only way you'll get a Dyson here is to purchase from someone who brings them out specifically. Dyson will not approve a distributor for North Cyprus cos we're too small. There is a distributor in the South though - I believe that's because of an historic arrangement!!

Why do you want Dyson in particular. If its just for the bagless design? Check out the market on Wednesday in Çatalköy. Also, the cylinders with material bags (and a Hepa filter) are also good for people with allergies - again, would suggest you try Soyz market on Wednesday.

Does anyone on here use a Dyson? I'd be interested to get a first hand report/recommendation.

A friend of mine shipped me over the new lightweight Dyson ball. I just love it so easy to use.. Is so powerful on the carpets too. I have a bad back and I just think this Dyson is the VERY BEST. Well worth every penny £270. from Argos and we even got a £50 voucher to use on a gas BBQ How good is that. Could not be without it and makes light work of the job now

I had every intention of putting one in my suitcase and bringing it over I would have carried on the plastic bag to be on the safe side ! so lightweight. Unable to use the old heavy type and would not bother waisting money on a heavy Dyson not now they have the lightweight one..

I'd "sell me old Grannie" if I could get hold a a Dyson over here, they are just wonderful. Mine unfortunately is on it last legs and can't get it repaired here. They sell them down South but cost a fortune.

Dysons are quite easy to dismatle and are easy to stow in your suitcase. Not that I would ever think of doing that.

Dust & grime is good for you, hides a multitude of potential problems. I once had an old MGB and never washed it until I decided to sell it and then all the panels fell off! It was the dirt that kept the whole thing together!

We brought our Dyson upright with us when we came over here 8 years ago. Occasional failure of belts due to heat but friends bring over new ones. Vestel in Girne (near Jasmine Court turning) also very good at repairing them too.

Dyson phone line in the UK extremely helpful with other spares and send over stuff quite easily. Wouldn't be without it. You can get upright Dysons from the South for about £300 Euros, not much more than in the UK. It seems that these are the only upright hoovers you can get here. Essential with dogs and cat.

I hope you don't mind me using your thread for some advice rosylee , Toying with the idea for a while , my friends swear by it , but they haven't got the new model , my hoover is great , but it is heavy , like you rosylee i have a problem , but mine is my neck . which is best upright or cylinder and also is the extention pipe metal or plastic . I could google but would prefer to hear firsthand people's experience with the new ones .

Many thanks , Simbas

We bought one of the lightweight "ball" type Dyson reconditioned hoovers from Pembe Gül market, which is in Karakum on Sundays. The lady on the stall sells various electrical items, including these. Wouldn't be without it now - and so light. The extension handle is lightweight aluminium with plastic hose and is adjustable which will help your neck and back. There is also a Hepa filter which helps if you have allergies. Would recommend that you go there and see if there are still some left - they are great. I think I have managed to copy a link here which shows you what it's like http://www.dyson.co.uk/press/pressrelease.asp?ReleaseID=67

We've got a Dyson [purple coloured, cylinder model], which we bought, almost brand new, in Paphos, from some returning expats. It's had 7 years hard use and still appers to be going strong and with no repairs needed, to date.

The only weakness/fragility appears to be in ALL the hose connections. The mechanism is too fragile and most on our 'Dy.' failed fairly soon. However, we overcame this problem by binding 'duct tape' around the hose connections as soon as each one, in turn, failed.

Otherwise, this old machine is still 'percolating' goodo!

Thanks Mr. Dyson!

I was given a heads up on this topic by the chap "mmmmmmmm" above. We have a shop in Manchester (UK) as stated and we specialise in Dysons.

We send new and used Dyson parts all over the world, and also machines all over Europe. Cyprus has caused a problem for us recently though. A chap recently ordered one of our remanufactured Dysons for delivery to Cyprus. I am used to courier charges within most European countries, but the charges for any of the main carriers to deliver a 40x15x12 inch 9kg box from the UK to Cyprus was mostly three figures. The best I could get was about fifty quid.

We will happily supply machines and parts to any of you folks in Cyprus. As I said, parts are no problem, but if any of you can give me a heads up on a carrier/courier who will deliver to Cyprus for less than a pint of blood, do let me know.

Thanks

I brought the Dyson 'Animal' over for a friend last year. She said you could buy them in the South but she saved more than £100 even though she had to pay £64 excess baggage. I have one and they are definitely the best.

Simbas,

I don't have a Dyson but with regards to which is best for you and upright or a cylinder is down to the individual. i would suggest you went into a shop and got them to allow you to push one around and see which suits you the best.

I have a lot of problems with my lower back and an upright had always proved to be too heavy to push and pull back and forth so I opted to buy a cylinder (meile), this is a few years ago and it is lightweight, good suction and has a long flexible light weight hose also the main arm is extendable to a very good length which in total means I don't have to pull the whole cleaner around too much. This suits me fine but may not help you.

Please go down to the shops and have a practice, you may look like you are cleaning the shop for a while but it is worth it before handing over a lot of money!

I wanted a Dyson and could not get one without paying the earth down south. Ended up in the large electrical outlet opposite the entrance of Superhome store near the Cyprus Mall and bought a Russell Hobbs Hepa Cyclonic 1800. Cannot remember the price but it was a fraction of a Dyson but has the same principal of collecting the dirt, no bags needed. It`s upright because I too have a back problem. I hope if it ever packs up I`ll be able to replace it.

Hi Spider, I didn't drop a link to the shop as I thought that was bad form for a first post. But certainly for parts, etc., delivered to the UK or Cyprus, our site is here: http://manchestervacs.co.uk and contact details are there. We also have a small Dyson discussion forum there if anyone has any Dyson specific or technical questions that may be beyond the scope of this site.

We don't need another outlet so much, as we sell them about as fast as we can build them from our site as it is, and good news travels I guess....

Do you have a link to this Valentines place? I hated refunding the chap in Cyprus recently and was Googling for a Cyprus specific removal or carrier company before I did so.

Nice one funny...

I anyone is thinking of getting a new Dyson take a tip from me..we are all getting older and some have problems with their backs like myself..Please at lease try out the light weight floor hover, you do not have to drag it about behind you if you are thinking of the cylinder type, not good for backs and the old type is far far too heavy..

£270. and will last forever works wonders on the carpets with the dog hairs too. Cant beat them.Bring one opened as fragile goods if you wish to fly one over with you. This service is free.

What is a 'light weight floor hover' - is this some sort of hovercraft type vacuum cleaner, or do you mean 'Hoover'?

Well it was my first time this morning , the experience was almost orgasmic , well i would go as far as to say the earth shook , i could be forgiven this , as i had reconnected it wrongly so the hose was sucking on my leg . First couldn't find any dirt in the cannister , after 3rd room it had a bit , so it is working . But i was expecting more from this little baby , after all the hype , we have high ceilings and i couldn't reach even with the telescopic wand . Lightweight when doing hard floors when using on carpets not so lightweight Well i'm saddled with it now , i'm hoping our relationship will turn into adoration but i have my doubts .

I like the sound of the "orgasmic " experience Simbas!! HA HA!

Years ago ,we had a middle aged batchelor living a few streets away in a farming village. His best mate was a cylinder hoover.....but his cottage was scruffy! !

(sorry to anyone easily offended)
