Hi, Help please, thinking of buying a small flat screen TV and a cheap DVD in England to bring over to use in villa. Would they be cheaper to buy in North Cyprus or cheaper in England and would i have to pay any duty. What do i need to just get basis TV, would i need just a aerial or a small Sat Dish? and how much are they? Many thanks for you help in advance.

Depends on specs I suppose how prices compare between here and UK. Generally, people say it's more expensive here. If you can get them in your case and don't get stopped then no duty! But expect to have to pay it otherwise - make sure you have your receipts to show how much you paid. Alternatively someone might be able to advise whether prices are better if you were to cross to the south and bring back in your car. Again, if not found, no duty, otherwise declare them or wait for them to be found and you'll have to pay some duty (as well as stoppage charges). When you get a TV there's lots of options. Cheapest way is to get a dish and buy a receiver in an electronic shop in Nicosia (receiver around 60tl), then set it up yourself to pick up whatever satellites are available in your area. We found Bader - Arabic TV with over 300 channels and loads of English films and news. I miss Corrie but can download from t'Internet for free so no problem.

Hi jac, All I can say to you is not worth bringing any tv or receiver from Uk..Not worth the hassle! Small screen tv? around 600tl in Trnc and probably cheaper in greek side but dont have any idea which shop to send you to...Receiver? as long as you have the dish ( which costs round 60 tl you do NOT need any receiver!!!! All you need is small item ( not so sure what is called but does the same job as that ugly black box) which you put into your scart socket and small wire goes onto you tv...Job done!! ( I bought mine for 120tl)

Been thinking about this myself & have found a 22" with built in dvd player for £150 at Sainsburys. I did bring out a dvd/video player 7 years ago with no problem & know people who have successfully brought out a tv in their hold luggage.

Buy the TV from the UK- better value and buy a multi-std DVD player from a supermarket in Cyprus - it will play your UK and any non region 2 DVDs you may encounter in Cyprus. You can buy a receiver from Maplin for 27 GBP to receive the free Nilest channels and a 1m dish, (don't go smaller - why ? you'll see when it rains HARD in Cyprus) and LNB for no more than c. 30 Quid ... I'm sure you'd get it fitted for less than 43 quid ... http://www.maplin.co.uk/b-grade-fortec-star-satellite-receiver-for-free-digital-tv-385031
