I have been told that any children with a turkish cypriot parent and a bill in their parents name for a residence in the south allows the student to have a free education which will be paid for by the greek government.

I am currently part time at an international school here and I was wondering if I could get this for my child and also any other children living in the north.

It is a different system and entirely English based curriculum which appeals to me rather than private schools in Nicosia where we live.

Any comments?

Hello Pixie,my daughter has attended Highgate school for the las 4 year's,and yes it is true that you can get free education if you are Turkish Cypriot or at least one parent is.But you do have to reside in the south and they do check up on you.I know a Turkish Cypriot parent of 5 who has moved to South Nicosia to take advantage of this offer and has saved her family thousands in school fees.

Msg 1: "paid for by the greek government"

Pixie, taking it you are not on the academic staff there if you really think the Greek taxpayer will want anything to do with educating kids in Cyprus.

Im doing my pgce so I teach a few classes, not on the academic staff no..

I assumed perhaps naively that these funds were perhaps contributed by the european union...

I do know that there are people taking advantage of this.

I will research it better and post the details

Msg 5 , I think it is your wording i.e Cypriot not Greek

that is what prompted the question regarding your academic abilities

well, being a Turkish Cypriot who considers herself Turkish and Cypriot together and not Cypriot first and Turkish second I always refer to the Greek Cypriots as Greek.

If you assume that I am unducated or not good enough thats ok with me.

Everyone has their own ideals values and beliefs.

Im sorry I havent been poilitically correct.

Being at High Gate has really changed me for the better. I grew up bullied by both Greek and Greek Cypriot kids, they made my life hell.

After 7 months at High gate I can truthfully say that I am enjoying myself immensely and have made many friends.

I dont think I have ever come on here and made a nasty comment about anyone. Thats not my style...

Hi again Pixie,my daughter is in the primary school.

Yes it is the Greek goverment that fund it,I know 2 families that have taken advantage of this, but Maria is wrong they do check up and pay visit's to your home to make sure that you reside in the south. You should speak to Patricia in the school office as she knows how it all works, but I can absolutly tell you that they do check.

It did seem a bit fishy to me.

They are hoping for more students from the North.

I guess we will see how it goes..
