Afternoon, we've got 7 angel fish, 3 garubi (not sure of English name?) and 3 others that I can't remember the name of that we would like to sell to someone with an aquarium.

The lot of them 50tl. (They were all about 8tl each not long ago, so good bit cheaper than the pet shops.)

If you're interested please email me.

Thanks!

NCWeddings:Wow !! You are looking after 13 tropical tropical fish and only know the names of 7 of them!! Different fish require different habitat and different water conditions. So having got bored with them and probably caused them distress you now want 50% of the money you paid for them returned to you. What a sad sadistic person you seem to be.Do your fish a favour and return them to the shop that you purchased them from without delay and asking NO MONEY for them. Before they all die!!!

I am inclined to agree, wholeheartedly, with 'Roley'!

However, I'm afraid you will find that most aquarist suppliers will not take back fish [even free], due to the possible contamination of their own stock by any number of diseases, from fungus to ich.

Perhaps 'sadistic' is too strong a word - you've certainly been thoughtless!

Actuallly they were all fish that we purchased on the advice of the pet shop owner. We've had a fish tank, very succesfully for 5 years, but we've decided to rearrange things at home and would like a smaller one now. But in the meantime we're not going to have one, whilst we decide which to get. The reason i don't rememeber the names is they were all named in Turkish so they weren't familiar like English names would be.

I would ask, before you start insulting me and my family and our animal caring skills, that you find out a little more information!

Roley - what a sad complete idiot you seem to be!

How dare people like you come on here and insult somone without knowing them or the facts behind their comments. Maybe something a little more constructive like "why are you selling the fish" and "how long have you had the fish" etc. may have been more appropriate, instead of thrwoing around personal insults about somone you don't even know.

i happen to know these people and they are strong animal lovers, with many pets, and they have had stunning aquarium for many years - always looks immaculate when i have been there - full of plants and fish. If they have had enough after 5 years then surely that is up to them?

It's people like you that the Mods should be banning and if I was NCW i would be asking the Mods to do just that. I doubt someone like you can even bring yourself to appologise?

Tanakoutou - maybe 'thoughtless' is a little strong as well in hinsight?

nc weddings msg 4.OK the word sadistic was too strong and i apologise.Clearly you had purchased different species of fish without much thought of their requirements.Angel fish come from South America in rivers such as The Amazon and live in brackish water which is acid as opposed to alkaline.Due to the brown colour of the brackish water they are difficult to see. They can grow to 7 inches if kept in the right conditions. If you had at least 7 in the same tank you would be aware how aggressive they can become to other Angel Fish and in particular to different species fish in the same aquarium. If you had read books and gained knowledge you would not have bought Angel Fish. The pet shop staff should have advised you of the correct conditions that Angel Fish require.St George1 msg5.You may like to think that you can slay a Dragon but free speech and honest opinion you wont and cannot.

Tenakoutou:Message3:Re the Aquarist Shop that sold these fish i would agree with you that they may not want to take the fish back. But consider the facts.1) NCWeddings has clearly stated that the shop recommended the Angel Fish of at least 7 in number to share a tank (of unknown size) with other (unknown) species of fish.Unknown only to NCWeddings not the Aquarist shop.2)Tenakoutou has by his own description kept these fish very successfully for 5 years, so we should assume that the aquarium is healthy and in the opinion of StGeorge1 is stunning!!A reputeable Aquarist Shop would have empty quaranteen tanks ready at all times. a)For new stock coming from the wholesalers.b)For unhealthy fish being returned for any reason by customers. This is normal practice at good shops.Considering the aforemention and the information being true i think NCWeddings should discuss this with the shop owner. In the meantime no more fish untill you have gained more knowledge.

Roley: Quarantine tanks require their own [separated] filtration systems - a costly exercise, which I can't say I've seen anywhere in Cyprus - perhaps I'm mistaken.

NCWeddings - congrats on keeping your fish alive and healthy up to now!

Here is a list of tropical fish that are usually compatible with Angel Fish: Silver Dollars, Bigger Tetras such as Black Skirts, Serpaes, and Silver Tips, Corydoras Catfish, Livebearers such as Platies, Swordtails, and Mollies, but not Guppies which may be eaten by Angels, and one Plecostomus Catfish.

Angel Fish are often seen in aquariums with Gouramis, Giant Danios, Rainbows, a group of Bala Sharks, and a group of Clown Loaches.

As Angel Fish grow larger, they become very efficient at stalking and eating small fish like Guppies and Neon Tetras. So they are not compatible tank mates for these fish.

Angel fish are cunning by instinct too as they usually do their savage work when the aquarium lights are off. I recall that a varied and compatible stock of fish was dubbed "a community tank" and it should not be necessary, though sometimes enjoyable, to buy expensive books as much information can be found on http://www. With the cost involved for marine, tropical fish it is for some a daunting prospect to consider keeping them but I found that once experience is gained looking after aquariums they are easier to care for than many fresh water species and in the long term no more expensive.

The poster of this topic is trying to divest himself of his 'shoal' - in the true spirit of this forum, deviation from the original topic is not PC!

Therefore, and only my opinion, while your suggestion is welcome, a separate thread should be initiated to accommodate it.
