I went to my local supermarket today and before I went in I had a look at the notices posted on the window. I found what was a copy of two postings from Cyprus44 that were posted on the 17th and 23rd of this month and was from one member having a go at another member and also mentioning another couples names. Quite what the point is in doing this sort of thing is beyond me. The member concerned (If that was who posted this notice on the window) should be ashamed of themselves.

How is that different from people on this board anonymously posting criticisms of others on the board?

AJ I do hope you took them down..Whatever was their need to do such a thing. If you have not maybe you could go back to the store. No need for this very sick, could you at least say a little of what it was to do with, like give us a little hint ! My guess their were a lot of postings on the thread and you have no idea what poster put it their..Opps you said two postings, sorry..I guess you cant ban the posters it might not have been them !

What a carry on...Things like this make me at least one member who sometimes would rather not post at all or even log in.

What is posted on this board can also be discussed on this board. A malicious posting on a shop window can been seen by everyone but is not open to discussion.

I will not go into anymore detail but yes I did remove the notice.

Whether they have posted on any other supermarket windows I do not know.

AJ, if you can find out who theses people are they really should be banned for life. This forum can be very useful, often funny, sometimes controversial, but this is lower than low and those involved should be ashamed.

What right did you have to remove the notices from the window?...

Even if it was utter nonsense... it wasn't for YOU to do that...

Because I know what the situation is all about.

Do you want me to go back and put it on the window again?

I tell you what Mark you come out here (if you can get into the TRNC that is) and I will give you the notice so you can put it back.

AJ,

Since when did you acquire such 'rights' ? The supermarket isn't your domain - it is down to the management of the Supermarket to remove the offending notices.. You should have contacted them and / or the parties effected with your concerns.

You're the guy who asks members to email off board re 'disputes' - yet you choose to take matters into your own hands..

Why on earth would you think I can't go to any part of Cyprus that I please ... ?

m6, perhaps AJ was entitled to remove the notice because, as stated below, "all text is copyrighted by Cyprus44"? Probably because of a Cypriot law similar to the one that stops you photographing certain people but allows them to photograph you? Damn, I can't post my comments on NCFP now because it is copyright!

Mark

The notice was in the public domain i.e. outside of the supermarket. I know the family that run the supermarket and they have no control over who post's on their windows (exterior). The subject matter was copied from Cyprus44 and included the board names of two members and the names of two others. I am sure most if not all board members would welcome the removal of said material.

Hi Hattinkins, re msg 14

>>it could even have been about you !<<

I rather doubt it - let's just say when someone is saying something 'bad' about someone else.. AJ is somewhat guilty of selective intervention ..

EVEN if it had been about me - it isn't for AJ to remove the offending notices... he asks for procedures to be followed on here...

Martin

No not a mention of me which I find disappointing.

The whole purpose of this thread was to state my feelings about this particular situation. I am not on a 'witch hunt' and if I wanted I could get access to the Supermarkets security camera recordings but that would not prove anything because I would probably not recognize the person concerned.

Anyway thanks to those that have e-mailed me so far.

Lets keep this on topic.

AJ.

This poster should be E-mailed by you to ask the question direct, if they admit posting it then they should have a ban for life.

All posters need to be reminded what this board was originally intended to do.An information board if my memory serves me right .

To many posts are sadly going away from that and this last example is taken it to the limits.

If these sort of posters are not taken to task and an example is not set by banning this sort of dispicable behaviour then in my opinion just accepting it will be letting the floodgates open for these sort of posters to ruin the name of Cyprus 44 once and for all !!

This type of act is dispicable. Not only does it show the posters who were having a go at each other on a public forum in bad light but is also adverse publicity for the forum. There is no need for it on here or anywhere else in the public domain.

I think AJ had every right to do that as he does have a responsibility to Cyprus 44 & his staff & members. It just shows you what sad boring lives some people have. Have they got nothing better to do with there time there. Shame on them!!

I'm not there, but don't understand if someone owns a supermarket why they don't have control over what is stuck on their windows? I have to say, some of the puerile polemics that occasionally are posted on this board do beggar belief, from people who are adults

Well done AJ-It was the correct thing to do.

Not surprised 6ms has kicked off-he's a big supporter of damaging peoples reputation while living in a different country.

Perhaps someone should drop a poster about him in his local shop in the UK.

He might have a different view then.

Not quite sure what you are alluding to with your posting.

A posting was deleted because some one decided to introduce the pros and cons of satellite TV.

The reason why I posted this thread was to find out what others thought of this act. As I have mentioned previously I am not on a 'witch hunt' and I guess more than anything else I wanted to know whether the majority was with me or against me. This has nothing to do with anything else. This has to do with the rights or wrongs about an action that was carried out possibly by a member of this forum and an action that was carried out outside of this forum but has implications for certain members of this forum.

If you have an issue with anyone, you should confront them, posting it in a supermarket is cowardly vindictive and spiteful. Yes as moderator, if Alsancackjack recognised it from this forum then he had every right and indeed duty to remove it. Do the rules allow you copy it, is it violating copyright and privacy policy , looks as if by reading what is at the foot of this page, I have the answer.

Ref message 36

Is that all you have to offer on this thread?

I am inviting comments about the situation that is described in my first posting and not about what you think about me personally.

At least provide some intelligent input into this thread or are you not capable?

Anyway lets keep this thread on topic.

Am I right in doing what I did or should I have left this post on the window for all to see?

RE msg 41, AJ: (...) Am I right in doing what I did or should I have left this post on the window for all to see? (...)

▶ Dave, if you for any reason (the validity of which I don't question) had a wish to have this notice removed you should have asked the shop's manager to remove it from HIS/HER outside window. I very much doubt if an outside window is public domain. If for any reason one shouldn't like barbers would one have the right to remove the word barber from the barber's outside window?

Hans let me explain again.

I know the family and they are aware of the situation and they did not understand what the posting was about and they told me that people post on their window without their knowledge but unless anyone complains then they have no problem with the situation. And as said earlier they were quite willing for me to review the security camera tapes. They do not want what has been accepted by them as a community facility to be compromised by a posting that they do not understand and more to the point upset their expat customers.

So should I put it back on the window?

RE msg 48, AJ: If you now suggest (allow me this: a bit late after your first post imo) that you discussed the matter with the owner/shopkeeper and THEN removed the notice with his/her consent - then there is no problem at all. And knowing all the facts maybe some replies in this thread wouldn't have been written. Certainly not mine.

Zoots very true maybe they are all thinking that the old or new thread that was posted here at one time may well get reposted...interesting !

I for one think it was a disgusting thing to do..whatever the thread was about ? Talk about bad gossip whoever did this act has a very destructive personality indeed....has a chip and grudge to bare not a very happy person either. In my professional view and I am sure most people if they were to think about it would agree.

This is beginning to sound more like a witch hunt which was as stated by AJ not his intention. Those that did this are disgusting individuals and exhibit all the hallmarks of a coward. If you have a problem with a person then deal with it person-to-person not on a forum or via a shop window for goodness sake.

There is still something bugging me about this. I have the posting in front of me now and looking at it, it seems as though the person that copied it from this board was not logged on at the time and managed to copy two separate post's into one. The original poster is shown at the top of the posting so I would discount him/her unless they did not realize what they were doing. And the (I think) intended target is also mentioned so I would discount both of those. the only other ID's are a couple of people that I have no idea as to whether they are members of 44 or not.

Where is Miss Marples when you need her?

This is an open forum

if you google a topic it will show from this forum

fact

a poxy piece of paper in a backwater supermarket is small change

I will take a wild guess and say google has more readers than a supermarket with 100? customers a week/day?

if you do not want your views seen

do NOT post on an open forum

FACT

If I am an average customer at any supermarket, I never even notice what is posted on the window.

If anyone did notice besides AJ then I think, like me they would think' what sad sick bas**** would d a thing

like that?'

Personally, I am not interested in what it said.

... and why not just remove it as was done with the permission of the shop owner (we found out later), and then keep quiet.

Why all this publicity AJ?

"Why all this publicity AJ?"

Perhaps the publicity will deter the malicious lowlifes from doing it again to another person, personally I think they should have been named and shamed.

suzyr.msg 69. If you don't like the forum and don't like the mods why do you bother posting?

Why post it in the first place if you can't accept the criticism or other peoples point of view.

" I know the family and the situation"

Why not let them deal with it themselves if it is that serious, which i doubt.

Is this not how "nosey neighbours" and "we know better ex-pats get bad names ?

Extending forum admin duties to supermarket windows, is that not taking it a bit too far ?

Msg 75: "...personally I think they should have been named and shamed."

You mean by naming a few innocent suspects? The culprit is UNKNOWN. But why let that get in the way?

Whoa!!!This is a MEDIATOR/ARBITRATOR you are criticising,be careful of this man.He can have you thrown off this site, never to darken its doors again! I can`t believe that an open forum(?) is controlled in such a way, that if ones views are contrary to the opinions, views and beliefs of the people who control it,then one will be castigated and forever banished from its HOLY temple.Never mind, there`s always FACEBOOKI!!!!

Don't you think whoever this was has enough problems, that discussing it too much might just push them over the edge. Best to let go now, course that is only my opinion.

OK I think this thread has now run its course. And those that take great delight in having a go at me please continue but do it by e-mail not on the board.
