We are hoping to buy property next year, but not able to retire yet so would be just using for holidays at first. We are just starting to look at the huge amount of info on banks etc but would like to know, even if we can open and operate a bank account on-line, how will we be able to get our monthly bills while we are in the UK - will the electric, water companies etc email to us? There is so much info to consider, brain is in serious danger of exploding - any help would be much appreciated. Thanks very much

jax,

chances are there will be a neighbor nearby who will help out paying bills etc if you leave a float, You can have electric DD'd from bank, but one person posted once that someone had about 2k pulled form their account, and couldn't get it back, just went into credit.

We and our neighbors all help out each other with paying bills.

Not a chance of getting bills e-mailed.

Biggest concern is not loosing the bills, get a descent post box, but you need to put instructions on it how to put the bills inside. Took our water reader a couple of goes to realise he could put the bill 'in' the box, not just on top with a small rock to stop it blowing away.

Thanks Brian, so much to find out about - thought I was being a bit optimistic about getting bills by email, but worth a shot!

No doubt I will be posting lots more questions nearer the time, the more threads I read on the forums the more I realise how little I know!

If you don't want to get involved in opening bank account etc. you can pay money into water and electric as credit. Water is around 30YTL per month and electric (standing charge) around 15YTL per month. So everytime we are there we put in credit for the months we won't be around. Eg for 4 months 120 TYL credit to water and 60YTL credit to electric.

Thank you, will think about that too, do they still leave all the bills in your post box for you just the same?
