If you visit one of the historic sites in TRNC and you have to pay an entrance fee - show your residency in your passport or show your blue or pink booklet (you are then "yerli = local"): you get a discount of 50% on the entrance fee. Example: Salamis: 9 TL for tourists and 4.5 TL yerli. OK, OK, it won't make you rich but this tip will buy you an extra drink...

P.S. And I know from experience that many expats/swallows don't know the above.

Good tip however, when I last did the 'historical tour' two years ago some of the purchased tickets gave free entry to other places but maybe on the same day only. Salamis had a three tier pricing system, one for tourists, another for locals and a yet cheaper one for students. I can remember when it was free to wander around the place.

Yet another well thought out Government idea to encourage first time visitors/tourists to return to these shores when they can blatantly see they've been ripped off by these discriminatory pricing policies!

Hans, museums in the UK are free to enter for one and all, do they still charge in Amsterdam?

We took a copy of our Kochan up to St Hilarion last year and both us an our two friends were given a reduced entrance rate.
