Tower buildings will change the nice wiev of Kyrenia. The government gave permission for tree tower buildings in Kyrenia; one will be a hotel 30 floors on Ziya Rizki Avenue, the other two 14 floors each; one on the Ziya Rizki Avenue and the other at the bottom of the new mosque. Somebody should stop them destroying Kyrenia, the heaven of North Cyprus (once apon a time)

Totally agree with that. Can you imagine stretch limousines and hummers in the high street?

I think Kyrenia looks very tired in places and needs bringing more up to date, without spoiling the older parts of town. More pedestrianisation and better out of town parking in the older parts would also be a great benefit. Unfortunately, some drivers like to park on pavements outside their shops/offices, rather than walk a few hundred yards.

I think these tower blocks will ruin the skyline.

Kyrenia doesn't really have a skyline. It has been kept level with planning rules. Many cities have iconic buildings and these identify them world-wide. The approaches to Kyrenia by sea are not frequented by much waterborne traffic, other than ferries from Turkey, but nevertheless a tastefully designed building, not a Disneyworld/Las Vegas lookalike, could only help to put TRNC on the map.

Surprised no one yet has asked two obvious questions. 1. Who is going to invest in the construction of a 30 storey building anywhere in TRNC ? 2. Which of the TRNC contractors has the capability to build it?

1. Similar people to the owners(s) of Cratos. 2. The work should go to whoever is capable of doing it. There will still be sub-contract work for TRNC companies if they are not main contractors.

Please don't tell me that the delightful skyline that is Kyrenia will be ruined with another prison hulk like design that is Cratos. The delight that is Girne is that it is older and has history at nearly every street corner not filled with some modern monstrosity that even a child would not allow or design. I do love modern architecture in the right place. I don't think that this part of North Cyprus is nor the Karpas or Famagusta.

Never mind eh!! If this montrorous carbuncle ever gets built, then the guests can ride up and down the High Street in the trams the Mayor proposes, likewise they can ride up the Funicular Railway to St Hilarion Castle or even walk along the beautiful walkway which is to be constructed from The Merit Hotel to the Old Harbour. Excuse me while I duck, there's a Squadron of Flying Pigs about to cross over the house. Tango1

TRNC is a paradoxical & quite unique globally. To think it may stay the same long term is unrealistic, as in its current state it is economically bankrupt & bailed out by Turkey, due to its lack of recognition. I still think there will be 'something for everyone' if Kyrenia is modernised with tall buildings & the like, as the outlying areas will become the new villages rather than hamlets & so on. TRNC needs some TLC. My heart breaks when I see the litter on the 'unspoilt' beaches & lack of opportunities for the local population.......as I said TRNC is unsustainable in its current position. The big positive with the hotel approvals is the indication that 'someone knows more than we do' re the Cyprus problem being resolved. On balance whilst my heart is not pounding with excitement, my head is more positive about the news

I may not be against high buildings in Kyrenia but not at whole sarroundings and around Kyrenia. They had to state an area away from the seaside and away from tho old town; where high, tall buildings could be constructed and keep and leave the rest of Kyrenia look as nice as it is.

The hotel could and should be built on the old army land on the way From Kyrenia to Lapta, who will pay ? Are the ministers waiting for EU money, should the TRNC be accepted into the EU, otherwise dont hold your breath.
