Once again Builders are going bust in Northern cyprus, when properties have been bought and paid for by British people looking for a more peaceful way of life, only to find that local building companies run up large debts with tradesmen, and landowners, so that all claims for compensation is acheived by withholding titles, to be used as bargaining chips along with the properties, that have already been paid for. I have heard this year alone of a building company going bust, and all 13 expats who purchased on the site waiting for the notice to quit, so that the properties can be auctioned to pay the builders and the landowners debts. This includes property that is already occupied by the purchases, who have registered contracts, but do not have the deeds to their properties or plots. This makes 52 families in the last 18 months that have suffered the same fate, with absolutely no refund or compensation what so ever so the purchase price of £ 135000 is lost.

Anyone thinking of buying in the TRNC must have more money than sense. Think twice then buy in the uk, at least our solicitors can advise you on pitfalls etc. After falling into the TRNC trap over the past 5 years and nothing to show for it apart from an empty bank account, and a villa that I thought I owned. What a mistake to make....

And of course all the Thalassa Beach Resort owners who are about to get merrily ripped off by Tavor/KDG , some people shouldn't get involved in the building trade if they don't know how to treat customers. Where's that bald headed Dom guy who goes after them on English TV when you need him! Stu

unfortunately Dom wouldn't stand a chance here as "fraud is not a criminal matter" and builders know this and lawyers are happy to take your civil case, and money, despite even successful cases rarely resulting in any compensation. Perhaps it is time for victims to wake up to the fact that the current TRNC system will not help them and it's maybe time for more direct action, whatever form that might take?

| Phil, A website regarding Thalassa is already being worked on, Savills, Homes from hell, TRNC and a whole raft of other people will be getting the link. I just need to run it past a solicitor(why it works both ways) and make sure I stick to the facts and then it'll be up and running. People can spout praise and support and it's your fault all they like but it doesn't alter the fact the TRNC is crap at protecting buyers interests, it doesn't take much from the Government to change it, obviously they don't care, but we'll see. | NN.. Myself and several others, keep trying to tell them not to do it,,but hey! they know Best!! Some bought for investment and "Lost" ..Others bought because it was "Cheap"...And in terms of build quality they certainly are cheap.....I just feel terribly sorry for those who, through no fault of their own, have come badly unstuck.... |
