As of 1st April Number plates must conform to the new regulations IE correct spacing and correct reflective properties, Failure could result in 250 TL spot fine plus seizure of vehicle until rectified. This has been for a change printed in the english papers.

Change of number plates should cost 20 TL

I was told that they ran out of plates after about 10,000 were changed, more plates are on their way tomorrow but there are limited supplies. Don't drive down to get them in case the police see you...

We got ours on the main Alsancak road across from Starling, they cost 30tl. Ordered them at 10am and they were ready at 2pm.



Spider this ain't an April fool you now have to have a white plate front of car a yellow one on the back and they must have a red line around. Ours had faded so much in 7 years we had to have new.

red line shows its a NC car not a south car as they both had the same numbering system only the south cars are on higher numbers now

Not only the red line is important but they have to be the reflective type so that the speed camera can picture them as they are in europe.

msg 12 ???? how come the camera`s have worked on the number plates so far?



will the new plates apply to police cars, RHA vehicles, dolmus ,trucks etc,etc ????

Maybe a silly question, but how do I know if I need a new one. I've had my car 5 years (2nd hand then), but it hs a back yellow number plate that is squarish rather than oblong, and has the red line on the outside. I've also been done for speeding, so the camera must be able to pick up my number. I have no idea if it's reflective or not, but the camera's must be able to see it.

Not quite true, Older cars have two or in some cases only ONE Letter

Yeah and motorcycles must be exempt - after all, they have one number plate the size of a 6" school ruler with tiny lettering...

excluding "classic" cars which would also include GB plates, many NC cars have one letter. but i have yet to see, in the last ten years, a "bubbles" car with one or two letters in their plates?

...just a thought.
