I purchased a new laptop at the week-end - Sony Vaio.

I attempted to transfer music files from my old laptop - Toshiba - to the new laptop. However I have a problem. My music files are in itunes in AAC format. In order to transfer the files they need to be in MP3 format.

Apart from manually changing each file to MP3 is there another way?. I have over 5500 music files. It's going to take me weeks if I have to do it manually.

Thanks in anticipation.

what player did you use for playback of your itunes on your old laptop?

can you not install the same player on your new laptop and keep your music files in the format they are?

No 1 Doyen,

I hope that you have managed to save your jokes database. Now that would be a loss!

Hi Iceman. It's all played through itunes and my ipod. Aparently I can't do this. I have to change the format of the existing files before transferring them over. It's a real pain - so laborious. I had the oldlaptop running for 14 hours yesterday changing the format of the files. By 10.30 last night I had only changed 1600 files.

Hi Wyn. No, still got the jokes. Hope you are well.

Try using Audacity. it is free and a very good programme for transferring recording etc http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

i transfered files from one old vaio to a new vaio, it was something to do with adjusting your settings from the standard format to custom. it was some time ago so i can't remember exactley. had some probs with picture/video files as well but all sorted now.

be carefull in the heat cos my vaio gets super hot then the keys get sticky. its a real pain. didn't happen on the old model just the new one!
