| Hi Mike Papaya is a difficult tree to get established but if your neighbour has two fruiting trees there is hope. The trees can easily cope with high temperatures but are very frost susceptible, especially when young, but covering should avoid any damage. Watering is very tricky with papaya as being shallow rooted they need lots of water but over-watering can lead to root rot. Best grown in a free draining soil, kept dry in the winter period and allowed to dry out between watering to avoid rot. Papaya is also a hungry tree and benefits from a monthly nitrogen bases feed. Best of luck |
