( it works for me )

In the evening when dark, Close all EXTERNAL doors and windows

Open all INTERNAL DOORS

Turn on a light at the highest point in the building

Leave light on.

An hour or 2 later, all sandflies will be close to the light.....just spray the buggers!

job done, sleep well!

Stewart. Your modus operandi for dealing with the little bug(gers) is the only sensible comment I have ever read which seems certain to bring any significant degree of success !

And if bitten, dab with vinegar(any type) reduces the swelling and kills the sting, smell goes away quickly (unless you haven't washed in a week!).

Stewart I don't think your method is sound infact it is seriuosly flawed . Sand Fly's can only fly to a hieght of three feet .

Who cares whether or not they die of altitude sickness or the effort of trying to reach the lights as long as they expire !

msg7 May be on your Planet , but in the denser atmosphere of Earth ,There flight altitude limitations are minimal........They hide in dark places during the day time and venture out at DHUG ,or as we here on earth call it Dusk...

I am sure the little buggers would find a way to reach you. Having suffered sand fly virus during my first summer here i would love to eradicate them.

There are 700 known species of sandflies - the 'Sicilian' sandfly prevalent in Cyprus - maybe there are other species in Cyprus, too, but as yet unidentified.

Vinegar is well known for wasp stings, as is bicarbonate of soda - however, the most effctive 'after-bite' treatment is 'Roy's Bite Balm' - a mix of medical ammonia, 10% baby oil [to hold the ammonia in emulsion], and a few drops of tea-tree, or lavender oil. Save your little [Johnson's 'Off'] spray bottles for this!

To say that sandflies can only fly to a height of 3', or even three metres, is 'bulls-wool'!

Light does attract them - carbon dioxide - more. As for sh1t...........open to debate!

Farts are a sure sandfly attractant; so, if sitting on your patio and you feel a fart 'loading' - best to race out round the other side of the house to 'express' yourself!

thanks for all your comments....most enlighting....I am only stating what actually works for me...so i dont need vinegar etc cause they ain't a problem

Dear MR T I knew mossi were attracted to co2 ( ie body heat / odour ) but until now did not know it was the same for these.

so perhaps the same idea for getting rid of mr mossi will work on these buggers.

any way....i won't be asking for any payment, wether it works or not!

About the SF flying hieght restriction ...why do i find them on my 8' ceiling ?.....anyone verify any sightings of sandflies flying above 3'.....and if so....are they suffering from altitude sickness?

Enforcing a no fly zone within your home targeting a sand fly with ground to air missiles could be quite costly for collateral damage.
