There's a letter in CT bemoaning the back biting that goes on on the local forums.

It also questions the value of anonimity.

Shape up please.

What goings on are these? Do please tell!

As for Ian Shepherd, there were no pieces from him this week because he's retired.

Has anyone produced a thread of evidence to suggest there was ever any ban on reporting K5? To do so in civilised democracies would involve an injunction against named publications.

Silly me, forgot about the Turkish army for a moment.

Ian left the paper at the end of the month. He n longer works for CT

Zoots Five members of Kulaksiz 5 were there on Tuesday at Girne District Court when Kibris Gazetesi and CT

lawyer told us that the case was adjourned but that they had done a deal with the Bank agreeing not to publish anything about K5 for a week. We have had representations made to CT protesting such draconian

action and since it was voluntary, it seems to have worked. They did not however print the News Release

we prepared in answer to the Bank's statement threatening to use the Bank Law to prosecute us if we

said anything untrue about the Bank. We will see what happens this Tuesday.

What a naughty lot we are with nasty words and thoughts. At least that was the message in both newspapers today. Anne in Star and the letter in CT both said we were a naughty lot, and that bans should be permanent, and ...................well, read it for yourself. Personally I think tyere are a lot of very helpful, caring people on this forum, many of whom don't live here (so they can't go out tidying up the village, Anne) and I know the owner, izzet and the Forum Administrators who give of their time for nothing, combine to make sure that the party is kept clean (so to speak). No one has to read this; no one is forced to contribute; and the Adminisrtators are there to sort out the bad from the good.

what do the rest of you think? I was going to create a thread, but this is as good as any. I am doing an article for next month;'s Zoom In on what a fab forum this is! comments???

Personally i could never make a sound with any instrument that had to be blown into and I had many friends who played trumpet, french horn, flute etc, but if you can blow it and sound it, then 'good on yer' glad you are always helpful and caring - perhaps yhou would like to come and see me cos I could do with more than a little help and care.

That said - what do others think? come on - let's start a 'Defend Izzet Campaign'

Actually I believe it was a reader of Cyprus Today who wrote in a letter. the main criticism was form a columnist in Star - but they were both saying more or less the same thing, - so yes, everyone may have a point of view - but who is right?

Ian was from the old school and I for one had a lot of time for him. He gave a Pauline a lot of time when she was arrested for her 'tongue in cheek' style of writing in the Geoff Day case and attended the Police Station with her and Agile Chris. He was the only one who bothered and gave most of the day up to support her through a very trying situation. He even came to the house when the 4 police officers went to her home and was a very useful witness to this violation of her Human Rights..

We will miss him.

Message to Marion - re post 6

This forum has been very useful to us over the past five years. As well as advice and recommendations on a whole host of things from other forum members, we have met up with some great people and with a number of these we have developed friendships that extend to beyond just verbal contributions and banter on this board.

Suffolk. I hope Izzet reads that. Thanks for putting some balance into the hyper critical ones.

I must comment on Ian Shepherd. retired from Cyprus Today but not from writing. I believe Brian thomas has taken his place. Lovely ian (like many of us) made some mistakes, but this week found four howlers in print. so take the whole but not the little bits.

Just like Cyprus 44 really.

Marion, as a former NCTJ-trained journalist in the typewriting era, four howlers, they should have kicked him out then.

The 5 Ws and an H. Simple, really.

But four howlers is a bit too much, maybe?

Marion, please do tell: what howlers are you referring to? Are they mistakes in spelling, grammar or facts? I really would like to know!

Ah well, turn the other journalistic cheek and exercise forgiveness - that's what I think. I buy very few newspapers these days, not even my own. But no one is going to get the sack here where 'poetic licence' reigns. best to just look at the pictures and let them convey the thousand words of our own choosing.

Just as much truth in that half the time.

Of course there could have been more than four, but I didn't read cover to cover. and of course any publicity is better than no (or bad) publicity.

I have met through this Forum some very nice people, some that today I class as my friends, Cyprus Today should have attended some of the 44 lunch-get-together's...Very enjoyable too I wonder when the next one might be,we always get many disappointed members who are still back home and unable to attend.

44 also enables members to raise money for charity..re-home dogs. Supports local businessmen including local events..You get the odd problems but that happens within schools too All in all the mods keep a quick eye on things and are improving the 44 all the time..About time they did another in the news stating the good of the forum..JMHO

Hi

I've hijacked my husband's sign on to make a couple of points:

I wrote the letter to Cyprus Today, just because I wanted to make what I thought was an important point. I appreciate the value of the forum and, mainly, enjoy reading the comments.

There was no question of the letter being written by the paper, nor was it anything to do with Ian Shepard, who I don't even know. Some of the comments on this thread epitomise why I wrote it.

Mary was not commenting on the owner of another forum-.

She made a general comment about the way some people miss use the forums.

Her letter to Cyprus Today was not a personal attack on any individual.

Just to get the record straight.!!

Thanks

Having read the letter in the paper at the weekend, Totally agree with the author, the biggest problem some people have is being honest with themselves never mind others. I along with a good many folk, only post here rarely as there are some very disturbing posts; from some equally disturb folk on this board. Who have nothing better to do other than as mentioned in the letter, try to damage businesses and intimidate and upset others for the sheer hell of it.

Sad lonely, ineffectual, individuals....so bring it on and have a go at me, cos you know who you are! Must be boring today cos it’s raining!!!!

I must comment that I recently bought a copy of the Star newspaper.

NEVER AGAIN!

On virtually every page, that newspaper castigated the CYPRUS TODAY newspaper? Sating that IT(The Star) was the number one newspaper in the TRNC. Well I have news for them! Any newspaper that has to rebuke another paper constantly, page by page, is afraid of the opposition. IMHO The STAR is a comic newspaper.

Sure we have heard the saying do un too others as you would have done un to yourself (not getting biblical ) ...there rests my case, we can make this beautiful island we ALL choose(yes Choose as we all have freeom of choice) to live in/on a better place or worse and we all, (for those that do) live here so a better one sounds great to me and if we only ever all help one or 2 people via the Forum (which a great many do) then thats a lot of good done ....

Handan/Msg 28:

So, if we all wine & dine at the Cratos and home all the stray dogs and cats, will that make the government change its attitude towards us, or will they consider us even bigger 'mugs' than it is perfectly apparent that they already do?

Having not read the reports I can't comment on that.

But I used to like this forum and like many others have met people, made friends (I hope), tried to help others when I can, found out about some great events, and enjoyed some of the interesting posts.

But I get so tired of reading the same old detrimental remarks from the few who got ripped of by Gary Robb and others several years ago ,have moved away but can't let go and get over THEIR mistakes (and losses).

Nor the few who just want to highjack a thread and turn it into a slagging match for their own self satisfaction, I like AJs new tighter control on this and all praise to him.
