It's the first time in six years that they have ever done that to me !! Be warned !! Also the couple in front of me had to pay excess for being two kilos over in their hold luggage ! Line those Efes up !! |

Pegasus have their own check in staff and have an annoying woman who slows everything up by checking everything, last time I flew with them I was 1 kilo over on my hand luggage and she demanded I pay extra to put it in the hold, even when we were 2 kilo's under weight on our cases.Thankfully common sense prevailed when one of the check in staff had a go at her and another one backed her up

Please correct me if I`m wrong, but I believe it states, on the on-line booking form, that baggage allowance is 20 kilos for hold stowage and hand baggage is 8 kilos, therefore if you are overweight on either item you are liable for excess charges, if you deliberately take overweight baggage then get charged, you only have yourself to blame.Maybe it should be a free-for-all,no doubt some on here would fill the hold with their stuff!!

We did and weighed the cases and hand luggage. All OK on friends scales. Charmless check in girl at Pegasus insisted that overall we were 2kg over and we had to pay nineteen pounds. The same thing happened to two other couples in the queue while we were there, they too had weighed their luggage prior to travelling. When we were met by friends on arrival at Ercan the same thing had happened to them. Could the Stansted scales be wrong? Or has every other person who used their bathroom scales got, amazingly coincidentally, faulty scales to the extent of 2kg? Makes you wonder..................... The guy at Monarch express check in at manchester is a star, he frequently turns a blind eye

Recently used a well known airline from Bristol at home our bag weighed 18K we had paid for twenty so add a little bit (about 1.2 K) and they weighed us in at 17.3 Kg. I think a lot of people do not check their domestic scales and do not centre the bag over the spring (or whatever) on their bathroom scale. John

Buy some digital luggage scales, I have found them to be pretty much on par with the airport scales.

msg 14, to call him a star is a bit much. Last time he took my hand luggage off me and said it wont fit in the overhead compartment. (Wasn't overly heavy or big). Made me put a few bits in my hold luggage, which was packed really tight so the luggage ended up with a great big hole in the side when I got it at Larnaca. God knows what fell out. Hope it was all my dirty underwear. ;-) At least I got my seed potatoes and onions

I recently flew Easyjet from Glasgow to Stansted - my hand luggage bag was literally only half an inch too big (i measured it at home and the dimensions were fine!!) and wouldn't fit in their stupid metal box thing and so I had to check it in. 12kg extra and my suitcase was apparently 4kg overweight too. £180 charge at 6am - not a good start to the day! I got to Stansted to check in for the Pegasus flight and was freaking out about having to pay extra again. The guy weighed my suitcase and looked at my hand luggage, kind of raised his eyebrows but let me through anyway. No extra charges. It just goes to show you that it does completely depend on the check in staff on the day.

Using "bathroom" scales will only give you a guide to your weight as they are never calibrated. I use calibrated weighing scales to check mine before leaving for the airport and the airport scales always concur, give or take a few grams (which could be sweat from carrying them!! :=)

Whenever one airline has a Monopoly from Stansted to Ercan, then they crack down on baggage allowances.. A Kg overweight, and they hit you. CTA used to do the same. But when there are a couple of carriers, they start competing on price, service and baggage allowance too.. The rules relax, and they tell the check in staff to ignore a Kg here & there... Baggage allowances are all a bit of a scam really... A passeger buying a ticket who weighs 40Kg pays the same price as an adult weighing 100Kg.. Yet the lightweight passenger is expected to pay £12/Kg if their bag is 1Kg heavy!

My feeling is that if you're going to travel with a load of excess baggage, then use Turkish Airlines. The, supposedly 'low cost', carriers make their money on charging for extras. On a recent journey from H/row to Ercan, my hold baggage was 10 kilos overweight plus 11 kilos of hand baggage and Turkish didn't bat an eyelid. If I'd travelled with Pegasus, the excess charges would have put my fare way above the cost of the Turkish Airlines ticket.

Pegasus allow 20Kg + 8 Kg hand baggage.. Sometimes I have been in the queue were people in front are overweight by 1Kg, and the lady from Pegasus tells them to take the Kg out of the hold luggage and carry it as hand luggage... Although this avoids them having to pay any excess charges, it is pointless as the plane still has to carry the weight... The only thing that is achieved is to inconvenience the passenger, and delay everybody else in the queue. I wish she'd use her common sense.

I always used to weigh my case at home by trying to balance it on the scales !!! really stupid !! now I weigh myself then do it again holding my bag then the difference is the weight of my bag, its really alot easier. Usually its about the same as the airport.

Thanks for the warning cos we're flying with Pegasus in May from Stansted and normally carry all the heavy stuff in our hand luggage so we'll have to watch this year!!! I always weigh the hold luggage, but never normally the hand luggage. Why don't they have a system of charging you on your overall flights eg outward and inward cos we always go with right up to our limit and come back with half our limit as we're still taking bits and bogs over with us every time we go. Somehow if you get charged being over, as we did one year, on our journey over and then your combined weight is only 20 kgs coming back it seems a bit unfair. I know it would be difficult to police, but it's even worse if you get charged for each item of baggage as they do with Easy Jet cos you're being charged for a bag that doesn't exist on the way home.

Cooper Re Msg 11 I use Easyjet about 5 times a year and have never had a problem with them. 20kg hold baggage and no limit on weight of cabin baggage - gives you lots of leaway if the missus goes on a spending spree . OK, it is no frills flying but leg room is good and prices of food/drinks onboard is not extortionate. They take some beating in my opinion. Regards Paul

arrry Figured out Turle Bay Restaurant yet? And to stay on topic, baggage allowances are just that. Over weight then you pay. If you had to carry it any distance then I am pretty sure it would be lighter. Chegs

Just received an email from Easy Jet. If hand luggage exceeds stated size on tickets OR you have sneaked an extra bag past Customs you pay up to an extra £40 and it is checked in as hold luggage at the boarding gate. Doesn't say if your Duty Free bag (if you buy anything) has to fit in the carry on bag though. Can anyone clarify this please?

The email I received from Easyjet states that if hand luggage is bigger than their stated size at check-in they charge £25 however if it is bigger at the boarding gate (assume you have checked in online and have no hold luggage) then they charge £40. In answer to Dreamydiver, the email also states: "if you bring more than one piece of hand baggage we'll check the extra piece into the hold. Hand bags, briefcases, laptops and laptop bags are all counted as one piece, so if you have a trolley and, for example, an additional hand bag or laptop bag you'll be asked to put those items into your trolley bag. If you can't consolidate your cabin baggage into one single item, one of your bags will be checked into the hold and we will have to charge you £40. We do this to ensure that we don't delay the boarding process and bring everyone to their destination on time." You will therefore need to be able to fit any duty free into your existing one piece of hand luggage.

Yep, Same with my wife and family at Stansted yesterday, also with Pegasus. They managed to get away with 1 kg over on hold luggage, but only by moving stuff into their hand luggage. What difference does it make really, it's the same overall weight weather it's in the hold or in the cabin. They were checking every case and every carry on. Mc

They do as they can get away with it... Moving 1 Kg from hold to hand bag is complete nonsense, wastes a lot of time, and wastes everybody elses time in the queue..

Just be careful with Easyjet. They charge you £25 at check in or £40 at the gate per extra bag. They also charge you per extra kilo that is in that bag so it soon adds up! I think it's crazy that you could have 50kg in your hand luggage but if you are 1kg over in your suitcase, they charge you. It's just a money making scheme.

This info is on Pegasus' website - you can pre book excess baggage in advance This is baggage taken onto the plane by the passenger. Each passenger is permitted one item of carry-on baggage measuring 20 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm, and weighing a maximum of 8 kg. The following are allowed to be carried on board without subjected to extra cost. If there is no room in the cabin for these items, then they will be stowed in the hold and carried as checked baggage. One hand bag suitable for traveling, One overcoat, shawl, scarf or blanket, One bag of duty-free shopping, One umbrella (except those with pointed ends) or walking stick, One baby carrycot or pushchair (can be placed in cargo), One small camera or telescope, Books and magazines to be read during the flight, Collapsible wheelchair or pair of crutches (to be placed in cargo) Baby food and carrycot to be used during the flight One laptop computer

Hand luggage is not just about being over weight Each section of over head luggage compartment is desined to take a maximum weight, but the airlines take into account that people will bring on Bottles of Duty free, as well as computors and other items, all have a weight. There has to be a cut off point & 8KG is it Again it all depends on the checking in satff some work for Serviceair they get commission The Pegusas staff are usually a little more leanient as they get a nice smiler when they let you through
