We are over from 12th to 25th April and would like to know which is the best, most varied market to visit.

Haven't got time to do the rounds (hubby would protest) so advise appreciated please!

The best 2 markets (in my opinion) are Acmenya (Indoor & Outdoor) Market, Thurs afternoons between 1 & 4 pm.

Held at Acmenya Restaurant in Alsancak, not far from Riverside.

And, Chateau Lambousa in Lapta, (just off the Lapta Strip....behind the LA Hotel) from 9am-1pm, on Saturdays.

You can buy a variety of goods at both.

Carpenters at Karaolanognolu is only small, but very select. Every Friday between 10 and 1pm, Maureen sells organic produce, Tina has beautiful scarves and dresses, Betty with her delicious cakes and Pam with beautiful art work. The garden at Carpenters is a lovely setting to relax and have a cuppa, or a reasonably priced lunch. Even if you don't manage to pop in and see us, hope you have a lovely holiday! Also, if you would like an interesting event to visit - on April 23rd at Altins holiday village, Esentepe, there is a charity fun run, auction, market and evening of entertainment, all in aid of the charity that helps people with cancer. That should be a belting day out, if you want anymore info it is already posted on the forum.

I think it depends where you are based. For home made baked food such as pies and cakes then we have the Cooks Market at The Ozankoy Bookshop on Wednesdays from 11 am. Local ladies home cooked and delicious hot cross buns, scotch eggs, quiches, caramel slices, scones and etc. This week we also are joined by a Cypriot lady with bulgur kofte etc and the cooks from Tropicana with curry and korma and onion bahjee

As you say you want variety, then Lamboussa is the biggest, and then Acmenya, where you will get all the food, plus loads of other things.

Don't forget the Wednesday market at Girne!

The fruit and veg stalls are amazing, so colourful and aromatic. There is also a good selection of plants, breads, nuts, ironmongery, tableclothes, scalves and hats too. I think it has quite a unique atmosphere, when you walk through to the sounds of the traders calling out their wares.

What about Wednesday market in Girne, plenty of fresh friut & veg., also Tina the scarf lady is there& she has good football shirts for the boys 25TL with all the named clubs & footballers on.

Carpenters market in Karaolanognolu is small but friendly & worth a visit on Fridays from 10am until 2pm, it is passed Tempo, near the Castle pub, turning on the right (that's if your coming from Girne on the main road not by pass)

Home made baking then visit the Ozankoy bookshop on Wednesday at 11am they also serve coffee & light snacks,

the home made quiches are yummy!
