Moving to TRNC soon (Catalkhoy), what can I expect from the TRNC Postal Servive. Will my post arrive from UK? Or should I look at a PO Box option?

It`s Catalkoy. We have no problems with post and we live in Catalkoy. But we bought a P.O. box in Girne......mainly because it is the main post office.

And we have always received our post . Even registered and couried items which some people will tell you gets stolen.

The only problem we had recently was a phone battery we ordered went walkies. The company sent a replacement..............which we received..then a month later the first one turned up...............

So now we have 2 for one.

That's odd, your profile say Ozankoy.......Is that why you got the PO box?......

LoosBoots, thanks for your response. Like yourself I might just look into purchasing a PO Box.

Our Villa is in Ozankoy however, we have to go to the bellapais to collect our mail & pay water. I would advise on a PO Box too.

Re message 3. Yes my profile says Ozankoy as that is what is on our contract BUT we are on the border of Ozankoy / Catalkoy and all our services come under Catalkoy.

However , that said , when we went to Girne main post office they asked us where we wanted to have our post office box. We could have gone to the Catalkoy / Ozankoy one but we decided that the opening hours were better at the main plus we could combine shopping in town with checking the post.

Hope that helps clear things up.

It's funny as we are in Ozankoy and are lucky to get half the half the items that are posted to us, even though we have them ALL sent in brown envelopes with type written addresses, as advised a while ago.

Yet others seem to have no problem????

We live in Çatalkoy and the postman is good, speaks English, lived in England for a number of years. Rides his scooter round our pool when he delivers mail (rather than get off and turn it round)!

Forgot to mention, when we asked him about a post box (which are situated opposite the post office) he said not to bother as he would deliver any mail, but we live in the village it might be different further out. I know he likes getting out on his deliveries.

We live in Lapta and we have our mail delivered (Thank you Mr postman) from time to time, the last time it was delivered, from the UK, the post mark was Lapta 7th Feb it arrived in our box 23rd Mar.....They must have missplaced it in the jumble of the office.

But on the reverse side of this topic (If I may be so Bold). I posted a birhtday card to the uk on the 27th Jan 2011 at the post box outside the Post office in Lapta. It arrived on the 28th Mar in the UK post marked 2nd Mar (Lapta mark).

Still they do TRY thier best "DONT THEY?"

We have never had any deliveries to our house, except the water and electric bills...............never seen a postman.

That`s why we opted for a post box and touch wood, receive 99 % of our mail.

The only post , to my knowledge I haven`t received was when I got my friens to send a couple of test envelopes, one brown, one white.never received those but received bank and tax coding letters. Even an obvious present attached to a card from my son.

Hey ho.

Would someone be able to tell me please, if a parcel is sent to you in TRNC that is too big to go in a post box, will they contact you from the post office to tell you to go and pick it up. Or, will that likely be lost too?!! I'm trying to decide whether to ask my sender in the UK to use Royal Mail registered rather than a courier cos my experience of parcels coming here through couriers has been either a stoppage charge of 120tl + cost of a commissioner in the airport to complete the paperwork (200) + customs charges + having to go to the airport to collect, or, 120 stoppage if the courier is in a good mood and they have collected the parcel from the airport for you + their admin charges and customs duties and I still have to go to Lefkoşa to collect it!! Often the cost involved in getting a parcel here isn't worth the trouble, especially if the parcel is low cost.

Re Msg 15 & 16. Cost of post box no. at Girne is 25 TL per year and pro rata if you get one now.

For a parcel, and I only have experience if you have a P.O BOX is they put a note in your box to collect at the counter or the customs office , which is in the basement of the post office, if duty is payable.

The most customs I have ever paid to date is 5 TL and the least 5o Kurus.

I am corrected, we did have a parcel delivered by a DHL van. The only thing was that I had to go to Catalkoy Lemar to meet the van as he could not find my house......................but then that is nothing new.....
