Does anyone have recent knowledge or experience of the position on bringing fresh meat for personal use from the other side, particularly pork.

Thanks

Go over the Famagusta crossing and travel thro' the army base and after a short while you will come to LITSA'S supermarket on the right. They have an excellent butchers shop inside and they also sell various bits that you can't buy in the north. The only thing that is risky is if they search your car coming back over.

Worth a try if you're passionate about piggies!!

I agree with message 4, the Pork shop in Alsancak are very good. I had a lovely leg of pork from there, with no chance of it being confiscated.

I'm finding this fascinating for a different reason: Assuming the folks who sell pork in Alsancak are TC, I wonder how they deal with the concept of handling pork in a - albeit secular - Muslim country.

They have their own pig farm, do their own slaughtering and therefore I cannot see them being Muslims ! LOL

Not that I have you understand, but the pork is better from the south and although I am never carrying any, I

have never been searched. THat's my story and I am sticking to it.,.Petrol is cheaper too now.

Best way to bring pork over is in your belly, found a great taverna that does pork chops to die for, size of dinner plates.

Well, having bought considerable quantities of pork on both sides of the island I would agree that GC pork is far better than most of the imported rubbish that they sell in the supermarkets here. On the other hand, the pork from the Pork Shop is in a completely different category - it is really excellent. It has a good amount of fat on it and crackling! Pork from the supermarkets in the south never has crackling and it is very lean. Pork Shop for me!

We have found everything from the Pork shop to be Top Notch. Their Meat, Bacon and sausage, etc. when we had a Xmas Turkey from there it really was something else.

They also do other meats and homemade Pork Pies and sometimes I have seen fresh Rabbit in stock.

I finid this to be like buying meat from a proper butcher like the ones in the 60,s my parents used to go to.

Also his Pork Chops and Steaks are sooooooooo big.

Pork is far cheaper in the south, actually all meat is, beef mince less than half price of the north! I would prefer to buy in the north, but the prices are ridiculous! Try walking across at Lokmaci and shopping in the Debenham's food hall, probably best not to have the meat sticking out of your bag as you walk back, but so far I haven't been stopped.
