Rental cars from south to north

Hi all,



Our friends from New Zealand are joining us when we are over in May and are flying into Larnaca, spending a few days there and have asked what the reaction might be in the north if they bring a car hired in the south over to use while they are in the north?



They were over in 2008 and got a 'taxi' from our house to Larnaca Airport and said that the car was spat at cos it had north plates and they are concerned it may be the same in reverse should they bring a car from the south over. I said I thought most of the aggression was from the south to the north rather than the other way round, but any feedback would be great if you have any please?

It won't be a problem at all. I've known plenty of people bringing hire cars across and I have also driven a GC plated car here myself. Unlike their 'cousins' in the south, the Turkish Cypriots really don't care about such things. Quite a lot of them would like to be able to drive GC plated cars as they are a hell of a lot cheaper over there!

I'm on a short trip 29/6 to 3/7

Its £78 for a Ford Focus hired in TRNC but virtually double if hired in the South

Add on the petrol and you might as well get a taxi transfer

With a longer trip a taxi is likely to be cheaper

Suppose its worth it if you are spending time on the Dark Side as well
