Hi,

We went over the south last week to pick some friends up from Larnaca airport and decided to make an afternoon of it. We parked up near the Marina between a long line of cars, some of which were double parked and looked for signs for parking. No signs so went for coffee and look round, came back and we have a parking ticket. I then looked on all the cars along the line, of course we were the only ones to get a ticket, must have been the TRNC plates. My query is does anybody know where we pay this ticket? There is an online site but when we try to pay, it says it doesn't recognise the ticket number. Our next trip over is Sunday can anyone help us?

The department is quite difficult to find its attached to the multi storey car park.

a friend of mine got done without a seat belt 80+ euros was the fine the ticket was all in greek so he had no idea how to pay, it turns out you can pay it in any bank within 14 days i think, after that in any police station until it gets sent to court, then after that forget it, as he went to the bank they said police station, police station said its gone to court he was asked do you have an address here ie the greek side he said no the police man said forget it, he would not let him pay how can they track you they dont have your passport number or anything

We suffered the identical victimisation in Nicosia, last year. I even wrote a letter of complaint to the GC Mayor of Nicosia - not even the courtesy of a reply, of course.

The easiest way to pay the fine is: drive to Lefkosa and park in a car park > walk over at the *Lokmaci crossing point > walk to the top of Ledra Street > turn left and you will see the main post office - pay your fine there.

It's much easier to do it *this way; otherwise, if you drive across, maybe you have to pay for a month's insurance, or even if you already have insurance [which it seems you have!], there is still heavy traffic to negotiate and the perennial difficulty of finding a parking space, or paying an exhorbitant fee in one of the car parks around Eleftheria [Freedom] Square.

We were fined last year for parking in exactly the same place by the Marina. No tickets on GC cars. Just on ours and also hire cars. We paid our fine at a post office on GC side.

I see the corrupt practices of victimising anything to do with TCs is alive and well in the fascist Free State of Cyprus.

Nice to no some things never change even if we are in the EU.

If it is a green paper issued by municipality - you can pay at ANY post office. If it is fine issued by police, you can pay at ANY police station. I am not sure about Sunday though (post offices are definitely closed)

If you received your parking ticket near the Marina,it is extremely likely that it was issued by the Municipality, therefore it is a civil offence and if you choose not to pay there are no recriminations against you.If you do choose to pay,you must go to the Parking Office at the end of the Marina,it is situated in the multi-story carpark. My advice to you is to just ignore it.As you stated, you were the only one to receive a ticket and this is most likely because you wre showing TRNC plates.Do not fear that you will have your "collar felt" at the border!!

I insist on you can pay at any post office if it is municipality. I work in south and am parking my Turkish plate car there every day and paid my last fine just three days ago.

OK I will try using less emotive words: How interesting it is that after all the initiatives to bring the two sides together there can still be anecdotal evidence of victimisation of TCs by the GCs.

Unfortunately unless someone produces a covert video of such practices it would be impossible to prove such victimisation.
