New car prices here are typically 30-40% higher than UK. Similar to UK there are extra costs involved with a new car as opposed to second hand.

Purchased our first ever car here in TRNC after passing our driving test here as well. After doing a bit of internet research on what sort of car we were looking for I asked members of the board for recommendations and took the majority advice. Went to Tasas in Lefkosa and cannot praise them enough and would recommend them 100%. Told them what we were looking for and what the budget was. None of the usual sales patter....just genuinely helpful. Chose a 2005 Automatic Honda Fit 1300cc (known as the Jazz in UK) 6,897 miles. £8,100.00 including 2 year warranty, 1 year Tax, 3 year MOT, & 1 years 3rd party Insurance. One of the Sales guy's came to our house that evening to pick up a copy of our passports in order to have the car registered. Following afternoon received a phone call to say we could collect the car. Arrived to find the car had been serviced, fully valleted and had a full tank of petrol. Could not have asked for better service.

The majority of Tasas imported cars come from Japan... they are nearly all petrol automatics... if that's what you want that's fine. That's because in Japan that's just about the entire market. They don't do diesels in Japan and if you want manual gears it's not so easy.... I would see what they can offer and then compare the prices of a 3yr old second hand car with 30,0000 miles on the clock and the cost of a brand new one with manufacturers warranty.... sometimes there is not much diffrence so you might be better with a car that is new and in three years time won't be 6 years old and have 60,000 miles on the clock.... and worth very little..

Fire starter Any idea how they value the car .I thinking of getting and driving a car over towards end of next year partly for the experience , ,Valued about £1000 so even if add 20%-30% it would still be all right as a run around, wouldnt be concerned about bumps and scrapes or if written off plus if pack up in TRNC just give away. But how close is their valuation to mine. Not much good if they say my £1000 car is worth £3000.

dee, we brought our car with us. we ended up paying 100% tax as that is what they valued it at! not glass's guide or even the original purchase reciept which we had! we were quoted by customs 7k tax. we thought ok fair enough as it was a brand new 4x4. when the car got here 12k or else. my cypriot friend this april brought over his merc, cost him 13k in the uk purchase price, customs charged him 12k tax. 12k seems to be a good figure for them! so how is that 20%? its not!!!!!!!! girne29 now you have got the idea.! don't bother! they just make up the price!
