Everytime I turn on my pc windows XP tries to start up but then a message comes saying it needs to check file system G. File type NTFS. CHKDSK Stage 1 of 3 then stage 2 of 3 then stage 3 of 3. It says I can cancel if I want to but I press ESC but it will not stop. It does this every time I turn on the PC. Does anyone know what this is about?

It sounds like you have got an external hard drive or USB stick left plugged in, or possibly a camera card left in your card reader. Try unplugging it if you have. Then just plug it in as as or when you need to use it once Windows has loaded.

Ste65 No nothing is left plugged in I always choose the icon remove safely and then remove it and that would be a memory stick or my camera card. The 3G USB modem is left plugged in I have to say.

At some stage someone has set it to do a system check when you switch it on. Let it run through. Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Schedule tasks I suspect it is in there. If it is delete it.

Has it put the same line in by itself? Or is it doing it even though that line is no longer there? if it has, then it should be checked by a professional as it may well be a very clever virus.
