I don't know the answer to your question but we had 2 landlines in our first house so when we sold up we decided to take one with us, as we all know they are like gold dust. We went down to the telephone exchange. explained what we wanted, the reply was ok but we had to pay for one years line rental up front. No problem, we said so we duly paid and filled out all the relevant documents then the guy stapled them all together and put it on top of a very large pile of papers on his desk. I asked him when we would get the line put in and his reply was: You may have a number but you do not have a line and there are no spare for Ozankoy! I asked him about the money I had just paid (approx 150tl a few years ago), his reply was: If there are ever any spare lines or the new exchange is put in, then you will get your line and can use your number you have bought! And you have to pay every year for this number even though you have no line! Don't hold your breath for a land

Shame isnt it i think residents should take priority with such limited numbers available. But if the line isnt used for a long time they can reassign it to some one else and they dont always let you know they have done it!

No, you don't, as long as you are a property owner. Geoff Famagusta City

No, you don't need residency when you apply for a landline although they will want to see your passport. Don't know where you are located but, before signing any contracts or paying any money over, be sure to ask them how long you are going to have to wait to get a line. Some established areas, like Alsancak/Lapta villages, lines are available very quickly. The other side of Girne always seems to be a problem. Also, newer developments frequently don't have the phone infrastructure in place as the builders haven't paid for this.

It can take along time to get one, so you need to be very patient.

I know people that have got landlines when they have only been renting a property, so I don't think you need to own property or be a resident to get one

Thank you all for your replies, good news from our point of view cos my husband can continue to work for his present employer from home, but we would need a land line. So we were thinking of applying for one well before we actually move over so that the transition can be as smooth as possible. We are in Kayalar and not sure how easy/difficult getting a land line there might be, but worth asking anyway. Thanks all once again x

" Transition can be as smooth as possible "" This is North Cyprus...The Words "Smooth" and "Possible" are very rarely used.....
