Hello everyone, new to 44, would like some advice. We would love to move to North Cyprus (lived in Cyprus 20 years ago) but not sure on the cost of living there now. I'm a consultant who can work anywhere as long as there is internet. The problem is that for the next six months my income is only 1400 GBP per month (clear) until I start to get paid properly. The wife is worried that we would be on the breadline, so she asked me to post. You can't beat experience and I'm sure someone will have some advice. Thanks.

Do you have a property in the North or would you be renting ? Without rent 2 adults can live here on 1400 a month. You would not be on the breadline, but would have to be reasonably careful how you spent your money. If you have to also pay rent from this then things would be pretty tight I think.

From my experience. Monthly - for two Rent - 350 GBP (+ / - 50) - Dependent on where you are going to stay. Feeding - 150 GBP Transportation: 100 GBP Utilities : 75 GBP Internet: 40 GBP Misc: 75 GBP I hope this helps you to an extent. These figures are just my estimates and could vary largely dependent on location, lifestyle and preferences. Enjoy North Cyprus

If you rented a flat in Kyrenia then your income would be ample to live on and have some left over for a few meals out as you wouldn't need a car.

Outgoings not a lot different to uk, better places to go with your buget without the crap you have to put up with here. The sun shines but the place is ran by a bunch of goat farmers, go south simlar rippoff artists but you have EU rights. D.N

Hi, thanks for posts, forgot about accom, that is taken care of, but not council tax, refuge, bills etc. We are not extravagant and I am an amazing cook (your all invited when we are over. lol). Just a couple of beers on a Saturday night does us, plus we are bringing the two dogs over and they are needy ex-worker spaniels. Great help, thanks all.

Refuse is included in the water bills which average out at £12 per month. Council tax or equivalent to uk is £60 per 9 months for my 2 bedroomed house. Electricity is likely to be your biggest bill.Good luck to you despite all the moaners i love it here and would never go back, i have lived here for 8 years on my own. The south side is so expensive now. Go into M&S and pay treble prices compared to the uk.

Dixie, trust me, I know the south, life is not all rosy and EU rights mean nothing (just a licence to eat for free in the UK). It's the North where we want to be, negative comments can be of great help too, just need to be constructive. As an expat who has lived in a few countries, I understand the importance of sites like this and have used similar many times. You cannot beat 'on the spot' intel, unfortunately they sometimes get hijacked by people who have had bad experience or who have just failed to integrate or make it. I took a couple of weeks on the site before posting and think from my experience of such sites, that this is excellent. So a thank you to the operators and admins and all above who have posted.

Thanks, Flightholidays, will contact you if we need, toying with the idea of driving as I have done before to the south from the UK, but never with dogs, looking at ferries at the mo and if it would be possible with them.
