Anyone using a UK bank which doesn't charge overseas transaction / ATM fees, whilst using it abroad to make purchases or cash withdrawls. My Halifax mastercard works that way but I would lke a current account that fits the bill. Thanks

Since Nationwide changed from no charge for foreign cash withdrawls and a very competetive exchange rate to charging I now withdraw Sterling in the TRNC using my Nationwide debit card, for which there is no charge and then change the sterling at the many exchange bureaus here. Less convienent but does save money.

Erolz. Ahhh looks like this could be the solution to my problem. The new charges are ok for the odd withdrawl or purchase but over the year it all adds up to the price of a major purchase. Thank you for your help.

i think Halifax have one but i seem to remember you have to pay in £1000 a month to get free withdrawals abroad. I dont get that income in three months so i have tp pay. Not fair really.

Think they have got us all buy the short and curley's, they charge high rates pay low rates and cut deep for transaction charges. win win win! All we can do is try to find ways around it. Everyone is in the same boat. I saw that the Norwich and Peterborough were offering an account but they wouldn't accept me as I have been outside the UK for too long.

Deniz1 It does depend on what type of card are you using... if it's the Nationwide Cash Card Plus then it will incur a charge. I think you need to apply for a Nationwide Debit Card to get free sterling withdrawals.
