Hi All, I know this is probably quite a vague post but any infact ALL info you guys can shed on this would be really helpful. My dad has recently brough a place in North Cyprus (near Girne). Therefore i am making the most of the bank holidays and coming over this weekend for a weeks stay with the girlfiiend. I came over last year very briefly but we spent most of the time sorting the new place out so didnt get to see a huge amount. THEREFORE we were wondering what kind of things you guys suggest seeing/doing etc?? I know this is vague and you could probably come up with a list a mile long but we intend to go out alot from here on in so can work our way through an extensive list!!! We are in our mid 20's but in to most things so any sight seing 'must do's' etc, have heard Bellapais is nice? ALSO: what beaches and resturants etc are good near Girne/Lapta area? Ive heard 'Escape' is a good place to start beach wise? Any good evening bars too!! Thanks in advance Chris

Hi Chris, an historic walk is a must if they are not all booked. You need to check out Dutch Crusaders posts. All the castles are worth a look. Not sure if the boat tours are operating yet or indeed the beaches open. Should be soon probably this weekend.Def go to Nicosia (our side lots to see there). The harbour at night is a lovely experience. The Hut at Lapta is great for a lazy lunch, Veni Vici restaurant opposit the Hut is very good. Charcos in Lapta village again has great reviews, there is so many and all the restuarants, coffe bars in town you will be spoilt for choice. The Ambiance has the most romantic setting. You will need a car though to get around. Im sure someone will have more up to date info than me. Enjoy your stay.

If you do nothing else, drive to the car park below Buffavento Castle and then walk up the path through the cliffs to the top. The views along the mountains from the ruins of the castle, down to the coast and on the other side across to Nicisoa are absolutely spectacular.

Hire a car and get a map. That's the best way to see the north.

I agree with message 9 - the Blue House is amazing, but only open at weekends, and take your passports. It's on the way to Güzelyurt...

Open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday for cleaning. Instead of returning to the main road to Guzelyurt turn right as you get to the end of the road leaving Mavi Kosk go back round the coast, call into the Maronite village the road comes out again near the night clubs you pass on the way tto Guzelyurt.

See http://www.cyprusactive.com The jeep safari visits the Mavi kosk 4 times a week. No need for your passport on the tour. We take in many areas around there including the Maronite village, the Tank,Kozan,Camlibel, the mountains and Gecitkoy valley plus much much more.

Karmi/Karaman is worth a visit. An old GC village which has been restored and it is now like an English village with English street names,an old church and a couple of pub/ restaurants. It is situated near Karoalanoglu (spelling probably wrong) flossie

@ msg 17, Blackbird: (...) It's on the way to Güzelyurt... (...) and @ msg 23: (...) exact (location)? ▶ No, it's not, if you want the facts, the Blue Mansion or Mavi Köşk is at your right hand on the road to Koruçam (with the famous restaurant for kleftico). But maybe it is on "on the way to Güzelyurt" on your map - why don't you upload your map with the "more exact" location?

Our favourite Australian bard has a corker suggestion! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb5MhX3cbsM&NR=1 For those not familiar with the [Down Under] term: 'ute' - it's short for 'utility vehicle', or commonly known as a 'double-cab' in Cyprus.

Salamis Ruins are a lovely day out as long as it's not too hot. Horse riding for your girlfriend maybe? Nights out - Tango to Buddha, Cratos casino, Crows Nest - Karmi pub quiz
