Can i please ask is it better to have plastic or wooden garden furniture. I have ruled out metal as I suspect it would be dangerous in the summer (getting hot) with the children.

Any advise will be welcomed. Thank you in advance.

yes it gets hot in Cyprus but I doubt its hot enough to cause burns from metal furniture. If its that hot keep the children indoors or well covered with oils. Wood or plastic your choice and budget really may dictate in the end. I doubt the longevity of any outside furniture bought in Cyprus indeed we have been looking this week and have struggled to find what we want. But most told us they are waiitng a delivery of plastic rattan (the same old story) from China....so its all in a ship at sea somewhere ...purchased for a song but may only last a couple of verses and will cost you a fortune in relation to the cost of manufacture.

Wood needs treating every year as it dries out quickly. Plastic gets very brittle in the sun.

We've got 4 white plastic loungers that are still as good as new after 5 years. 2 wooden ones are ok after 3 years - just coat with teak oil once a year. We've not had any luck with plastic rattan - even under cover on the terrace the heat with make it shabby after about 18 months, but the cats will love sharpening their claws on it.

We bought cane furniture (3 seat sofa, 2 armchairs and coffee table) from Mermaid Fabrics about 4 years ago. We have rubbed it down and varnished it this year and it still looks great.

we bought real rattan furniture after having the same predicament as you.

No regrets, although a bit more expensive, I do not think it will ever need replacing as its only enemy is water and there is not too much of that about here!

I would recommend that you spend a bit more and have it for 10 years rather than having to buy plastic and wood more often.

Aysel on the right hand side (think Lapta but not sure) going down to Alsancak has a smashing selection and was very accommodating when we wanted some single chairs for bedrooms.

Normally the shops look right through you, give you a cyprus shrug and tell you that you have to buy a table and four chairs, not interested in just selling you 2. Anyway, because aysel was so good, we bought the 2 chairs, then bought a table and 4 chairs as well!
