Hi everyone, I'm Carren and my 5 year old son and I are staying here in Alsancak for approx 8 weeks or so....we're looking for new friends for picnics, days out, exploring the island or just meeting up for drinks.......anyone interested? I'm Welsh and I've lived in Turkey for 15 years, waiting for my son's citizenship to come through before we move back to Wales. Would love to meet new friends!

Inshalah indeed!! Thank you roisin,we're still enjoying ourselves though, sun or no sun! My little boy is a trooper and has been swimming everyday though I'm not so brave! There are some lovely walks around Alsancak and we have 4 lively dogs to walk every day! We discovered the market last Wednesday in Girne and off to Lefkosa on Tuesday to the High Com.

After 15 years in Turkey its wonderful to be able to buy proper bacon and mature cheddar again..will need to get out to lose the oncoming kgs though disappointed in the choice of fresh fish shops!

I read somewhere about a jazz festival ,do you or anyone know anything about it?I'm passionate about music and love jazz!

I think there is a Jazz festival but not until September. if you click on 'events"at the top of the page it gives you a calender of some of the events happening. There is a jazz night in May. There is a flower show/festival in Ozankoy this weekend both days. It isn't on the events page yet(maybe later!) You can usually catch a "special"bus from Lemar supermarket in Karakum that will take you there and back(very difficult to park a car in the village on those days) Hur Deniz is probably the best shop to buy fish. There is also a shop near Bandabulya(just past the Round tower shop) in Girne that is open eary morning(shuts as soon as all fish sold - if its still there!!)

Hi Susi, I lived in Marmaris and Cesme, both lovely towns!Visited Antalya a few times, the shopping was wonderful there! I see you have 2 young children, can you recommend a nearby playschool for my son please? He's missing his friends and wants to play, thought I'd try and find a place for 1 or 2 days a week.

Hi Carren

Just returned back to the UK where we now live in Kent. We are avid followers of The Scarlets!

We have better weather here in Kent than the past two weeks in Cyprus but fortunatley have a month end of July to make up for that

Hope everything goes well for you in Cyprus, there are plenty of people on here who will be more than happy to help you out

Best wishes

Ian

Helo Carren.I'd better answer in English, just been to Turkish lessons,I may get confused. !!!

I travelled North Wales selling stationery for many years, passed through your village once a week to Pwllheli, and upto Blaenau,as well as fishing in Trawsfynnyd, and in the Glaslyn.

And my sons and I supported Wrecsam, every home game and lots of aways.Look forward to a chat in our language when you are here !!!
