Neighbours of mine love walking, as I do, but they always take bin bags with them, as I do now, having watched them, and we pick up any rubbish we see and bring it back and put in the bins to be collected. Does anyone else do this?

By the way, meant to say it is not just a TRNC problem, in the UK it's getting really bad, lazyness means people on the beach in the UK think that if they toss a bit of sand over their rubbish, it's taken care of. But do worry about the amount of broken bottles tossed into the sea at TRNC (OK, obviously not broken when tossed in, broken after tossing in....

Hi all, I have heard the nightmare stories!! WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN???? Is it pure lazeness, lack of bins or the way people are brought up to devalue their country by doing silly things??? Maybe NC need to provide more bins to encourage people to use them?? Also police should start issueing fines for littering-this will soon make them think again?? I hear that a few times each year they organise big groups of volunteers to go and clean the beaches up as they are in a really bad way?? See ya D

We visited Alagadi beach during the holidays and saw a Turkish family collect all their picnic rubbish and put it in a carrier bag - thinking they would take it away with them. When we came out of the sea - guess what - they had left the carrier bag full with rubbish on the beach. It needs a big culture change - they've been doing it for too long. Having said that, in this weekends Cyprus Today, they showed a story of a group of Turkish schoolchildren at the beach learning about the Turtles habits, presumably the rubbish problem will have been broached - so maybe there is hope for the future generations.

Hi all When I was a kid, at school they used to take us to the beach and make us to pick up the rubish and stuff. And I`m talking about 1983 to 1990 .And that time there isn`t many ex pats in cyprus. TC (we) are not taking care about our country. This is the fact. And it`s nothing to do with education. It has to be in your blood and soul.

Hi all, My partner lived in Holland for 22 years and the primary school children there from the age of 6-11 are taken out on a regular basis to pick up the rubbish and clean their local area up. This is then inbread in them at an early age and as they mature into adulthood they take a pride in there country and keep it clean. The state of the streets in inner city UK is an absolute disgrace and we could learn a lot from some of our european neigbours.

Hi all, I remeber this aswell a couple of times a year they would take us all out to pick up rubbish in the local area!! Also once a month they used to get us to clean the rubbish in the school playgrounds etc aswell!! Thats how it should be so they realsie the importance of throwing rubbish in the bin instead of the ground- as they would have to pick it up eventually anyway otherwise!!! See ya D
