Snadia

but will this certificate be internationally recognised? There is a good dinghy sailing club in Kyrenia and the instructor is a fully qualified RYA coach/instructor but cannot issue RYA certificates because the TRNC is not internationally recognised, so does the same criteria apply to what you are promising?

International yachting certificate in a month?

Sounds about as 'qualified' as a scuba diving 'Open water' PADI ' certificate, which a novice diver can get in a week, or less!

One may as well get these certificates out of a box of 'WeetBix' - [is it 'Weet-a-Bix' in UK?] - !!!

As far as I'm concerned there's NO substitute for long experience - either on, or under the water!

However, good luck to your enterprise!

All I advise you to do is to meet the instructor (he's as I said aligible for studying for and issuing "IYT" cerificates), the instructor by himself is in his profession since 15 years old, having worked on merchant ship for more then 30 years in many countries, including UK. Nowadays he is enjoying his time with his yacht, and, by the way he's the representative of "IYT Worldwide" accreditation association (International Yacht training Group). He has worked out his own programm, and, besides that, offers also following ones, as:

- Introduction to boating course /International Crew

- International Watchkeeper / Flotilla Skipper

- International Bareboat Skipper

- VHF Radiooperator

Moreover, this knowlegde and certificate will allow you to lower the insurance fee on renting a sailing vessel. In you would like to get more information - you are welcome to contact me via e-mail.

Hippo, actually, you could take into account that these are 4 weekends with the full day of theory and practice and the terms are adequate with those oversees you mentioned and not even comparison with the price for this summer. I don't really understand your opposition, but if the duration is the personal question its not so hard to prolong it in your case.

OK-probably myself and spangles know most if not all of the sailing boats in North Cyprus I certainly dont now one that is coded to take ten people, so we are just interested to know who.

The IYT shows no acredited schools in North Cyprus.Only in ROC.

Personally I wouldnt have much confidence in having instruction from anybody who has atended a 34 day course to obtain a certificate to examine people for for the certificates that you issue.

The final thing is that the qualification you need to charter a boat and for your transit log is an ICC (international certificate of competance) you are not offering that.

Your charter around the Greek islands I am glad your not navigating on my boat check your milage

Sorry but you being evaisive makes me be more piontingly in my questions.

I have emailed you have failed to reply

Well, you didn't e-mail me, first, and on the whole i think you spend too much time commenting others' posts...Unfortunately you don't know the detailes and start critisizing. By the way - you are not attentive - the boat is on this side since the end of this month till september.

People, interested in such an opprtunity are welcome to e-mail me to nadushok@tut.by, i will answer your questions and direct you to the person who will take care. Thanks.

For the benefit of members not familiar with Belarus

It borders Poland, Lithuania, Latvia ( EU), Russia and Ukraine

It's leader - Lukashenko - I call him Luka should go - is a despot and rigs elections and imprisons political opponents..

I have friends from Belarus in the UK, CY and there..

"Jeanneau -Sun Odyssey 45,2" not licensed for 10 people

Sailing school is based in Limassol

IYT is an American organisation formed because they found the RYA syllabus too difficult to follow.

The minimum requirement for chartering is an ICC (international certificate of competence)

Snadia just be honest an answer peoples questions.

I of all people support anything that will get people sailing but what i wil lnot endorse is a quasi organisation that is not transparent.

And as most people know here I do have a little experience

You have been continually evasive in your answers to legitimate questions.

If you wish to promote this worthy venture then please give the details that are asked for.

You posted in a public forum answer in it.

The sailing community here is a small one in that most people know each other.

The arrival of a Limmissol based yacht school in North Cyprus is obviously going to be a contencious one, the subject of permisions, qualifications, registrations and work permits is always going to be looked at in detail.

Especially with the way as i have mentioned before, the way boats and sailors that are not only based here but have visited the North are treated by the ROC authorities.

We already have a qualified yacht instructor (Crusing boats) here Unal Dede who is Turksih Cypriot runs courses both here and Turkey.

I sugest that you are doing your friend/client no favours a more transparent attitude would be beter.

I have run a sailing business here for over 25 years, and retired in 2005. The tax office recently demanded 88,000tl from me , personal tax , even though we closed our business. The fact that my husband still teaches sailing here as part of the Yachting Federation seemed to be a reason to hound me. They had been taking photos of him and others teaching children , and assumed that I was still working 12 months a year.!!!!!! What he does is voluntary.

As a matter of interest, my son who is also a qualified RYA Coach Examiner accessor is on his way to Kibris in a 42 ft Bavaria and should arrive about the end of June, he is checking out sailing schools along the Med, and is in Paxos at the moment.

Getting sailing qualifications is something that takes more than a month believe me. The sea can be wonderful and horrific.

I am aware of Terrys excellent work with youngsters here and his committment to teaching youth sailing.

The coastgaurd will shortly be getting some optimists to teach youngsters we must get together when i get back.

I am pleased that the opportunities for would be sailors are opening up but I am totally in agreement with Hippo that sailing licences or qualifications are issued under strict codes of practice (after all, the skipper has responsibility for his crew's safety and the safety of other sailors). As a recent RYA Coastal Yachtmaster graduate I can certainly vouch that you need significant experience (in all conditions) to reach such standards and they take much much more than a month to achieve.

I seldom if ever appear on this board. However, I now feel compelled to do so! I have made sailing my lifelong sport from around seven years of age and I am still involved here in the TRNC some 43,000 hours afloat time in sailing dinghies, yachts, and in power boats large and small. I quit the RAF in 1983 as National Dayboat and Dinghy Sailing Coach to become a sailing professional. My background has been RYA throughout and Coaching RN, RM, Army, and Royal Air Force personnel. I train at all levels here in the TRNC as a licensed sail Trainer of the KKTC Yelken - Motor - Kurek Federasyonu. Now to the essential plug! We have a Sailing Club GWSC shortly to be based at Cratos Port (and it has not burned down). There are 4 Wayfarer Mk 1s, 2 Wayfarer Worlds, one Albacore, 4 Laser Picos, 11 Lasers soon, 2 Topper Xenons, four Optimists, and two new power boats. We have a most capable sail training team (STT) and Youth Squad comprising TR, TRNC, UK, SA, D, in all around twenty young sailors.

Yes, it means we are moving from Diana beach, and had planned our move last Saturday, but the area where we were to put our boats at the Cratos port had been covered with rubbish from the Hotel. Later the same day there was a big fire so we now have another delay.
