Hi

I was hoping to get some direction on two fronts.

Is it better to buy a tv in the uk and bring it out to Cyprus?

What's the best way to get channel options with no monthly fee?

Hi unclebrin,

I would advise you to buy the TV/DVD system of your choice in UK.

Then install a free to view system from Tektan, Girne.

Good luck.

Just be careful if you bring one from the UK, if anything goes wrong with it your guarantee would be a problem.

Television prices are quite competitive here now, although not as cheap as UK.

Thanks. For that

Any idea how much the free view costs and what channels do you get?

Does it matter if the tv is from the uk in terms of compatible it is with free view

we have free to air tv (hotbird and nilesat ) had it installed on the next satelite box .

tecktan installed it in girne and couple of years ago .he may now have better options so best to check?

i think it was just short of £200 or around this figure anyway .

you get lots of arabic channels as you would imagine and some you can watch without sound (like sports channels for footy or boxing ,horse racing if you want)

but in the main i think upto around 30 english channels...mainly american movies ,series ,news etc

as above says i brought 22inch tv/dvd as hand luggage 3years ago from uk

Check out D-Smart, suits my needs however, newer, later purchases of this system seem to diminish in what's available 'free to air'. My package is a one off payment for the box, channels agreed on purchase.

I bought a Samsung LED/LCD TV from Zorlu which is just before the Colony Hotel as you head into Girne. I found the service good, they turned up when they said they would to deliver and install the wall mount and the price was only 10% or so more than the best price I could find in the UK at the time. They also stock LG TVs.

Hi rocky,

"where is tektan and do they sell TVs ???"

Here's a link with directions....

http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/26487.asp

Not sure if they sell TV's in either of their shops,

I use Tektan for spares & repair.

If not, try the shop on the left, on the way down to the New Harbour,

forgot it's name, bottom of a block of flats.

lots of electrical goods in there, at reasonable prices.

Buying TV from UK will save some money but how you gonna bring it over..any sort of damage..how you gonna claim your warranty back.

Buy from NC. and ask Tektan electronics to set it up for you
